5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference (NOT Tutorial!) for AutoCAD 2008

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick Reference
This is actually a "command" reference. You need to know the "command name" in order to look it up. If you don't already know, for instance, that the name of the command to create a special tag for something is called "attribute," or that hatching is called "hatch" this won't help you figure it out. It doesn't show screen shots of the pulldown menus, which are pretty...

I purchased this book to supplement the textbooks required for my drafting classes at a local technical college. The textbooks required for the classes where all designed as tutorials and I wanted strictly a reference manual as a complement to these books to look up AutoCAD 2008 commands, aliases, etc. (especially aliases as I prefer using the keyboard for command entry as opposed to menus or toolbar buttons). This book has been all I expected it to be, and has been and continues to be a nice resource. I have been around PCs & PC software for a while now, and this book reminds me of the command reference manuals that used to come with PC software back in the day - a straight-forward, alphabetical listing of commands, each with all the available options, etc. listed.

Bottom-line is I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for a command reference. Otherwise, if you are looking for a tutorial approach, look elsewhere. For mechanical drafting, I would recommend The AutoCAD 2008 Tutor for Engineering Graphics - this was the main textbook for two of my drafting classes.

Wasn't what I had been expecting, but IS a GREAT reference tool for AutoCad users. A quick way to look up "HOW-TO" if you need a memory jog.
SERVICE from this supplier was GREAT! I was made aware of where and when the book was coming, and they delivered as promised!
I would try to buy from this suppliers again whenever possible.
