Great for Quick Reference

Waste of time
This book is a waste of time. Not a reliable reference book as you would be led to believe from its title. An example: Page # 42 bottom left illustration has Demon Mahishasura holding a rifle. That is hilarious! so much for historical authenticity and editorial competence. Stay away from this book

This book is a waste of time. Not a reliable reference book as you would be led to believe from its title.

The "Illustrated Dictionary of Mythology Heroes, Heroines, Gods, and Goddesses From Around the World" is just that; an illustrated dictionary. It provides concise and interesting informative tidbits, usually accompanied by illustration(s). As a history and myth buff, I thought it was quite nice, for the type of book it is designed to be.It is by no means a textbook, so, if you are expecting a detailed description of Mythological figures and symbolism, or an anthology of Myths, then this is not the book for you. However, if you are looking for a quick coffee table reference book, or perhaps, even a present for child or the young at heart, then this is the book for you. |
