Waste of time,
By
This review is from: Illustrated Dictionary of Mythology: Heroes, Heroines, Gods, and Goddesses from around the World (Paperback)
This book is a waste of time. Not a reliable reference book as you would be led to believe from its title.
An example: Page # 42 bottom left illustration has Demon Mahishasura holding a rifle. That is hilarious! so much for historical authenticity and editorial competence. Stay away from this book

Great for Quick Reference,
This review is from: Illustrated Dictionary of Mythology Heroes, Heroines, Gods, and Goddesses From Around the World (Paperback)
The "Illustrated Dictionary of Mythology Heroes, Heroines, Gods, and Goddesses From Around the World" is just that; an illustrated dictionary. It provides concise and interesting informative tidbits, usually accompanied by illustration(s). As a history and myth buff, I thought it was quite nice, for the type of book it is designed to be.It is by no means a textbook, so, if you are expecting a detailed description of Mythological figures and symbolism, or an anthology of Myths, then this is not the book for you. However, if you are looking for a quick coffee table reference book, or perhaps, even a present for child or the young at heart, then this is the book for you. |
