Book Description

March 1992
Treasure one of the greatest forms of pop art in America--the metal lunch box. This is undoubtedly the most comprehensive and colorful compilation of metal lunch boxes ever published. Memories of childhood buddies carried to school each day are beautifully photographed from every angle to display the front, the back and the bands of every box. With sections on care and cleaning, a list of manufacturers, and color photographs of the over 500 boxes themselves, the authors have created a wonderful guide to an entertaining field in pop culture. The book includes foreign boxes and carry-alls as well as a section on advertising and original art.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good pictures, uninspired text, September 29, 2004
There are indeed some lovely shots of classic lunch kits in this volume. However, I have yet to find a book that approaches the thoroughness, photographic appeal, or wit of the two books by the fellow who started it all, Scott Bruce. If you are a beginning collector, the best thing you can do is get hold of the Bruce books for a comprehensive history and background, and then sign on to www.lunchboxpad.com, a website run by a young collector, for a realistic current price guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great nostalgia and fond memories on every page!, September 15, 1998

This review is from: The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Metal Lunch Boxes (Paperback)
If you ever owned, or wanted to own a lunchbox from the 50's through the 80's, this is the book for you. This book provides fond memories of school days, mom's lunches and "what was cool!". Full color photographs of the boxes and thermoses from various angles really make it a must for someone interested in lunchbox collecting or for someone just looking for a fond recollection of a simpler day gone by...

5.0 out of 5 stars The most definitive lunch box guide I have found, April 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book has great photos and descriptions of the metal lunch boxes from the beginning until the early 90's. Most are TV shows from the 70's and 80's. There are values but they are merely a guide. It does note different variations of a box; i.e. different colors, error boxes, multiple versions, etc... Descriptions are minimal but the photos are great.
