This beautifully crafted book is a wonderful edition to anyone's collection. Crafted as one would expect from a deluxe edition, with ridged spine, guilded page edges, and ribbon page marker attached. 775 pages of actual poetry with an index of first lines in the back and a table of contents, list of illustrations, and an index of authors in the front of the book. The only caution I would give to anyone wishing to purchase this book is that the Font (Type) used is quite small (approximately 6 points) which would make it very difficult for anyone with vision problems to enjoy. Otherwise, this volume is a great choice with a good variety of poems and themes to enjoy.

I first got this book as a Christmas gift when I was 16 years old (back in the early '80s). I wore it out and it fell apart. I bought a new copy last year and I'm so glad I did. I'm now sharing it with my kids. I love this book.

I just purchased a copy of this book to replace one that I gave away. It is beautifully bound and the illustrations add to the beauty of the poetry. Since the author/compiler of this volume died in 1878, there are obviously no 20th century poets included in the collection. I enjoy randomly opening the book and reading whatever poems are on the pages that I have opened it to. Both copies I purchased had a black cover. I don't know if there really is a version in a green cover.
