Excellent Book on Internet/TCP/IP Networking,
By
This review is from: The Illustrated Network: How TCP/IP Works in a Modern Network (The Morgan Kaufmann Series in Networking) (Hardcover)
This is an excellent entry level to strong intermediate level textbook on all the foundationally relevant aspects of Internet/TCP/IP networking. There is good coverage of "current" topics (as of 2009) like security, IPv6, and VOIP. The author is very experienced (40 years in the industry) which shows, and he has a nice style with good transitions, interesting questions that are later answered, and he even presents relevant and interesting history to help you understand the subjects. The best part about the book are the more than enough examples with diagrams/figures and tables that really help illustrate the concepts (thus the title.) I highly recommend this book for any network administrator, network student, and even for IT management.

Good book. The author describes the simple aspects of networking before delving into more complex topics. I think it is very informative and complete. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the details of networking.

I came across this book on a shelf in a chain book store (but bought it from Amazon!) and was immediately interested because it was a Networking book that did not assume Networking is synonymous with a specific networking vendor. Far too many _Networking_ books are written as if a particular networking vendor is the only way to explain networking concepts -- similar to the way too many programming books used to assume that _Programming_ was synonymous with _Windows Programming_. There certainly is a place for such books; however, there is also a place for books about networking that are far less vendor-specific.
Although I have not (yet) read the book through to the end cover, I am thoroughly enjoying the text. Aside from being extremely well written, every discussion and example is based on a single, real and complete network, that is kept consistent throughout the text. If you are looking for a broad yet "deep enough" explanation of the TCP/IP suite of protocols, I strongly recommend this book.

Great item. Great delivery at a time that was needed immediately.
Glued together first title page that stuck the other pages together as well. After it was removed, the glue did not affect the rest of the book which was in excellent shape. |
