Review
When you think of tattoos, do you think of old sailors with faded green anchors on their arms? Do you ever think of women as having tattoos? Lots of big tattoos? The image of a tattooed woman has often elicited a negative assumption about the woman's character, but The Illustrated Woman may open your eyes to a whole other view of body art and the women who display it. Some of the women photographed here have one or two simple tattoos, while others have covered a large percentage of their skin with detailed and colorful designs; some are secretaries or laborers, while others are doctors or executives. However, all have chosen to adorn their bodies with images meaningful to themselves as expressions of who they are. -- From The WomanSource Catalog & Review: Tools for Connecting the Community for Women; review by FGP
