5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Guide
I'm learning Illustrator now, and this book has made all the difference. Many people have told me that Illustrator was hard to use, but the author has a way of making me understand what all of the tools, menus, and palettes do, without being boring. Great writing style.

So far, the Bible has been dead on in all aspects. Every time I need to find an answer, it tends to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Steep learning curve: Be prepared for confusion.... at first
While I find this book to be one of the most informative books around on AI9 it has a few shortfalls. For one, it shouldn't use a word to describe itself!! This is one of my biggest peeves with this book in the earlier chapters. AI9 tools should be described in plain english. If your learning this for the first time be prepared to be a bit confused for a while. Second,...

So far, the Bible has been dead on in all aspects. Every time I need to find an answer, it tends to be in one of the well organized chapter. I wish all computer books were this useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Word on Adobe Illustrator, December 18, 2000

The Illustrator Bible continues to be the best work on Illustrator available. The authors' wit and detailed explanations make learning even the arcane functions of this software bearable. Illustrator 9 has opened up a world of new capabilities, functionality, and styles that just aren't possible using other software. And this is the book that will have you designing for the twenty-first century.

No other Illustrator book can match the Illustrator Bible for detail and in-depth explanations. A must have for every Illustrator user.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! I love this book!, January 17, 2001
By
This review is from: Illustrator 9 Bible (Paperback)
This book has easily the best coverage of Illustrator 9 that I have found anywhere. I also picked up the Illustrator wow book, and was sorely disappointed in that (although it has very nice pictures). This book provides the in-depth information that I need. Great coverage of the new features like transparency and live effects, too.

Second, many of the examples in the book are NOT clearly illustrated (how ironic) and last but certainly not least, some of the "step by step" examples should be made much easier to follow in the beginning of the book. For those that have some knowledge of AI9 or plan on doing this professionally, this is a must own!! Hopefully they will bring back the "disk included" for the next version. It is much easier to learn WITH the disk!! P.S. How about some more color for an illustration book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting approach to drawing, March 23, 2001
By
This review is from: Illustrator 9 Bible (Paperback)
Fantastic book. Well organized. I have used Illustrator for eight years, and this book taught me new and exciting things about this robust drawing software. Great resource for artistic suggestions and complex special effects. I use this new knowledge every day in my profession.

Creating professional artwork with Illustrator is not as easy as it seems. This book gives you most tricks of the trade. Heartedly recommended. Hope to see other books by Mr. Alspach in the nearest future. Not necessarily about Illustrator, though he seems to have a great grasp of the software!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and powerful stuff!, March 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Illustrator 9 Bible (Paperback)
This book had the most profound and dramatic impact on my understanding of Illustrator. The sooner you read this book the better! The thing I like most about this book is the density of useful information. In this respect no other book I've read can overcome Mr. Alspach's achievement. Not even close. "The Illustrator 9 Bible" makes you think about drawing and computer graphics in ways you never thought before. Amazing and inspiring stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Designer's best friend, March 25, 2001
By
This review is from: Illustrator 9 Bible (Paperback)
The book details everything about Illustrator -- giving before and after examples -- and then continues to tell even more! Above all else, the book forces you to focus on your design, while allowing you to take advantage of Illustrator tools and capabilities. It was a very easy read and one that provided useful arguments for users of other software. In fact, I wish all of my coworkers would read this! It is presented in a very clear and concise manner and the book design itself practices its own design principles.

In summary, this book is great for anyone involved in the design process. It is a great reference when you need to understand how to use all the features in plain English.

5.0 out of 5 stars A keeper, April 5, 2001

Paul German (Johnson City, NV) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Illustrator 9 Bible (Paperback)
I found this book to be well-constructed and full of informative, helpful and practical examples for the novice and a great reference for the experienced. The book takes the user from a "WHAT IS a vector?" level to the more advanced "JUST GIVE ME THE MEAT" level. From the very minute I opened the book I was able to start drawing. I have created a set of basic drawings that has allowed me to win several new clients. My next step is to design an full color brochure that maximizes my illustration and design effectiveness. This will be a treasured and well-used book in my personal library for a very long time....

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Projects, and thorough coverage, February 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Illustrator 9 Bible (Paperback)
I have struggled with several different Illustrator-based projects in the past. Most books give weak examples and explain some of the more rudimentary elements of the proper use of Adobe Illustrator. Simply put: the projects in this book rock! More than anything else, it will give you a new look at creating illustrations in Adobe Illustrator. The author shows that Illustrator can do just about anything that you want it to!

I bought this book for one reason: the author wrote an article a few years ago describing various unique techniques he's done (the article appeared in Adobe Magazine). This book is more of the same; a detailed and thorough look at Adobe Illustrator.

Get this book and get started on your career as a professional designer!
