About the Author

As a military separations specialist, Elaine has been writing for military families and speaking at conferences and military installations since 2003. During the creation of her books, Im Already Home...Again and The Road Home, she interviewed over 3200 military families about exactly what they did to keep their families strong during separations, and resilient when reconnecting again. Her work as an active civilian has been featured in Ladies Home Journal, The NY Times, and over 110 other publications including 6 in foreign languages. She s been on radio, national TV (including MSNBC, FOXNews and the Montel Show) to talk about the importance of keeping family ties strong. Elaine is honored to be the recipient of the ABC 7 Everyday Hero award for establishing the free Flat Daddy project. Awesome book with many great ideas on how to stay close while your loved one is deployed. My husband just deployed and i have already used many of the ideas in this book. These ideas are a hit with all of the soldiers!

This book is full of great ideas for staying connected while your service member is deployed. As a National Guard wife I was glad it was NOT branch specific. There are ideas here that will work for anyone experiencing deployment. Elaine's approach is no nonesense. She has gathered hundreds of ideas from military spouses so they are tried by the "sisterhood" before they ever make it into her book. I was lucky enough to see her speak at a NG family readiness conference and she is just as approachable in person. I just heard that she has a new book out, The Road Home which focuses on ideas to make the reunion and reintegration process go more smoothly! I can't wait to read it! I would definitely recommend this book!

Really well done -- easy to read and full of great ideas. Buy it early if you can, so you'll have the time to employ some of the ideas prior to deployment. There are easy ideas that take little time too. I enjoyed this book and am using many of the ideas inside it.
