Beautiful dam*it,

This review is from: I'm Beautiful (Audio CD)
1998 and 1999 saw the best dance music by some of pop's greatest female singers. There was Madonna's Ray Of Light, Cher's Believe, Gloria Estefan's Heaven's What I Feel and this, Bette Midler's I'm Beautiful.
A remake of the 1993 Uncanny Alliance song, this underrated cover by Bette Midler is a highly enjoyable piece of retro camp all over. The original album version with Bette Midler's amazingly wacky spoken vocal supported by retro-style vocal backings by men and women makes this narcisstic song a nice dancefloor number. With a few high quality remixes from the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Victor Calderone and Brinsley Evans, this song took to the dance world immediately with clubs playing simultaneously. Danny Tenaglia packs in some hard beats and bass with Bette's vocals and churns out an anthem remix worthy of a good workout on the dancefloor. Victor Calderone broke Bette's vocals into bits and pieces and loops the chorus around his trademark dance track. The best remix here is the Brinsley Evans Back To The Scene Of The Crime Mix which fuses the original version with a sample of Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You and creates a rather funky remix. Overall, 8 tracks of Bette's comsic-fabulosity. No one says it better.

"Too too Divine!",

I have been a fan of Bette's for six years and was starting to get bored with her old albums when she struck gold with this new song. Never before has she gone THIS far to reach #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts and now she's even doing a tour themed around her album - The Bathhouse Tour. But I just loved the "Back to the Scene of the Crime" mix better than the original album version! And for Bette fans: her latest film "Isn't She Great" is coming in May

I only gave it a 3 simply because I'm not one for remixes or for singles. I bought this single though because I find that the song itself sends a great message, that regardless of how you look or yourlifestyle that you still should consider yourself BEAUTIFUL DAMN IT. There are 8...yes EIGHT...different tracks of "I'm Beautiful" on this single. All wonderfully done if you like remixes. Very much dance tracks. "I'm Beautiful" can also be found on her Bathhouse Betty cd.

Take a look at these mixes,

Hellishly funny song from Miss M. with 6 great club remixes. Brinsley Evans samples Stardust's "Music sounds better with you" and Victor Calderone gives his ordinary tribal treatment to the song. Best mix by far is the"D.T. CONTINENTAL CLUB MIX". DANNY TENAGLIA signs one of his best remix to date and turns the original song into a delightful and hysterical club anthem. Too beautiful...

I am disappointed,

I am a huge Bette Midler fan and I was disappointed with this. I just think it is so not Bette. They took little bits of her voice and added crap in there. I mean I will listen to it now and then but I like having "Bathhouse Betty" alone better. At least she sounds good. I guess I am just not a big pop dance fan or something....:0( I am not saying I hate Bette by this but I just didn't like it. The one thing by her that I don't! LOL :0)

These mixes are okay, but the only one worth listening to is the "Back To The Scene Of The Crime Mix" that was released to radio when this single came out instead of the album version. It really gives it a disco feeling.

I'm not one for Bette Midler, but when I heard the Brimsley Evans Back to the Scene of the Crime remix, I knew I had to check it out. The song has an uplifting message with slightly narcissistic undertones, but you can still dance to it. What's unique about this is that Bette's not singing, but speaking throughout the song. Please try to find this if you are a dance fan. You won't be disappointed.
