My 2-year-old was given this book as a gift during my pregnancy.

I guess it's not the book that's at fault, I just need to find one more suited to our family.

My 2-year-old was given this book as a gift during my pregnancy. It is a great book for a little girl who is going to become a big sister. The story of Elie and her new (gender neutral) baby sibling is fun, and informative. I really felt that it helped prepare my daughter for what it would be like to have a baby around the house, and helped to give ideas for what she could do to be a good big sister. I also liked that it pointed out the benefits of being big, even when everyone is making such a big deal of the baby.

A lot of my friends who have two kids have looked at this book while at my house, and all of them agree that they wish they'd had it for their daughters before having their second child. They all seem to have had other books about being a big sister, and said this one is by far the best they've seen.

We like this book; we got it to prepare our little girl for her baby brother's arrival. The only thing we don't like about it is how it says "Ellie used to be Mommy and Daddy's little girl, but...." They don't minimize the role of big sister as helper, etc. But I think it's sad to tell a child they are no longer your little girl. They are ALWAYS your little girl. So when I read it, I just say "Ellie used to be Mommy and Daddy's ONLY little girl." That way it doesn't change their status as "just as precious" as new sibling.

Good book to help prepare a daughter for the birth of a new sibling. The artwork is only okay but the story is pretty cute. Helps explain why baby get bottles, diapers, etc while big sister gets big girl things ... helps encourage your older daughter to want to be a big girl and start to do big girl things like use the potty. The little girl's name in the book is Ellie and they refer to the baby as baby to keep him/her sexless so it will work if you're having a boy or girl.

I bought this book for my then 2 year old daughter when her baby brother was about to be born. She's over 3 now and still loves reading it. She's always excited to hear that Allie does the same "big girl" things she does, like sleeps in a big girl bed, wears underwear instead of diapers, helps mommy, etc. I am currently buying a copy of "I'm a Big Brother" for my friend's son since her new baby is on the way. I would highly recommend this book! It made her feel special even when the baby was getting so much attention.

We were gifted two "big sister" books for our daughter before our 2nd child arrived. I prefer this book over the other one because it highlights certain aspects that we need our daughter to learn. My kids are only 19 months apart, so it would have been better to have this book in a board book format. Interestingly, many of our friends have just had their 2nd child born within 2 years or less. I know that they would have appreciated a board book format. Despite my daughter loving this book so much (came in handy with potty training), for some reasons she decided to tear out all the pages. Oh well.

My daughter was 16 months old when her little brother was born. A friend gave her this book as a gift, and at first I thought it was not quite age appropriate for her. However, this has become her favorite book that she most often requests that we read to her (she is now 19 months).

When we read it to her we change certain parts to make it appropriate to her situation. We change the little girl's name to her name, and instead of "baby" we say her brother's name. The part about being potty trained we use in future tense, and even though her brother isn't bottle fed we still read that part of the book to her. The story has a good common theme throughout to teach the big sister that babies need a lot of help and attention.

I wish this book came in a board book format, I've had to repair nearly every page since it has been so well loved!

I really like this book b/c it's a positive way to prepare your daughter for a new baby. The main character's name is Ellie, which happens to be my daughter's name, so that was a plus! It leaves the new baby's gender up to interpretation, so this will work for baby brothers or sisters.

Wonderful book that was given to us and we just had to get for my niece Ellie(same name as the main character) who's getting a new baby brother soon. My sister-in-law and her daughter loved the book. Author makes being a big sister sound so appealing!
