2.0 out of 5 stars Talented young singer trapped in pedestrian productions
Given that this is marketed by MCA's Nashville division, one might assume that this was a country music CD. But even by today's loose radio standard of "country," there's little country music or spirit to be found here. For the most part this is slick, middle-of-the-road pop.

Elliott is quite a talent, with a surprisingly mature voice, but the material...

I had intended to just buy her single "I'm Diggin It," but decided to get the whole CD instead. I'm really glad I did. I would have missed many great other songs this artists so powerfully sings. I LOVE the title track of course. Some other favorites of mine are "I'm waiting for you," "Every heart," and "You wanna what?" and her version of "Some say I'm running." All in all, though, every song is definitely special and worth listening to over and over. I never have to skip tracks, which is really nice. This girl definitely has bright future ahead of her with such a powerful and soulful voice. I can really relate to these songs and she sings them with such conviction for someone so young! Great job, Alecia! You rock!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm definitely diggin' it....., June 20, 2000
This review is from: I'm Diggin It (Audio CD)
I bought Alecia Elliot's CD on impulse about a week ago, but for once did not regret my impulse buy. The day after I bought it I met her at a signing at Best Buy. She was very sweet, and shy, a definite change from Britney Spears' vixen image. The other night my friend was over, and we were listening to the CD, and we both were talking about how great it was that finally some teenage girl wasn't flaunting herself, but writing real lyrics that we could relate to. Sure, some people might think she's a Britney Spears wanna be, but unlike Britney, Alecia sings songs that actually apply to girls of today. She also encourages girls not to succumb to sexual pressure in her song "You Wanna What?", which she co-wrote with some other writers. Her song "I'm Waiting For You" talks about keeping herself for the one she knows she will be with forever. Alecia is definitely a positive influence, and it's great to listen to someone who isn't afraid to be good. I look forward to her next album.

Elliott is quite a talent, with a surprisingly mature voice, but the material she's chosen to sing is either beyond her years (e.g., Matraca Berg's "Some People Fall, Some People Fly") or the sort of highly-charged teen anthems (e.g., "I'm Waiting For You") that can be found up and down the dial.

Unlike earlier teen queens, Elliott's great talent has not yet found a sympathetic, innovative home. The production and playing are the sort of mechanial reproductions that are now endemic to Nashville "product." And though her voice is able to play along nicely, the end result isn't particularly memorable.

Here's hoping her debut is successful enough to give her a second shot, and that she makes more of that opportunity than she's (presumably) been allowed to the first time out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love It!, February 27, 2000
This review is from: I'm Diggin It (Audio CD)
If you'd like to hear some cool new country instead of the usual boring stuff, this is a CD to get. I saw Alecia Elliott on Jay Leno a few weeks ago and she was great. Finally a hip young country girl(like me lol). I luv every song on this CD. "You Wanna What?" is my favorite because I've had it happen to me and I know exactly what she's singing about. The other songs I really like are: "Aint No Ordinary Love", "I'm Waiting For You" and "I Dont Understand". I cant wait for her next video. I'm glad I found out about Alecia on CMT. I started diggin' it and now my parents and brothers and sisters are diggin it. Too bad my radio station only plays the same ten artists over and over and over again. They should be playing Alecia Elliott. Luv and peace y'all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, what a debut!, July 10, 2000
This review is from: I'm Diggin It (Audio CD)
This is possbily the best debut album I've heard since probably the Dixie Chicks' debut. Alecia's alto voice is impressive, and her vibrato is respectable. The worst thing about her vibrato is that she sometimes tries to hard to sing that way, so it sounds forced instead of natural.

All the songs are spectacular. There isn't a song on the album I don't like. "I'm Waiting for You" is a song in which Alecia sings like she means it. I can just imagine her longing for her love and waiting till he comes back. "Some People Fall Some People Fly" is another splendid song on the album. The ballads are wonderful. Beautifully sung and sung with heart and style. She emphasizes the right words and enunciates at the right syllables and words to give the lyrics even more life. Alecia has a magnificent album in her hands. I'm very glad I got this album. It's totally worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Diggin' It Like You Wouldn't Believe! (iknowthat'strite), June 27, 2000

I bought this CD months ago, and at the time I wasn't sure if it was even a CD that I really wanted to own. "Some People Fly..." totally convinced me to buy it because I loved it so much. Since I usually listen to Britney Spears, M2M, Dave Mathew's Band, the Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Jessica Simpson, Hoku, Mandy Moore, Backstreet Boys, and BBMak, I have sort of eclectic music tastes. However, I had never tried this kind of music. Alecia Elliot's CD "I'm Diggin' It" soon became my favorite, and has been played over and over to the point where my sister screeches "turn it off, turn it off!" whenever she hears it. I have yet to get tired of the CD, though I must say that I think that it could be improved with a greater number of fast(er) songs vs. all of the slow ones, like #s 3,5,7, and 8. This is a wonderful CD! I really think that a lot of different people would love it!

Definately not the Britney Spears of country.Alecia actually has talent!I bought this CD two days ago and I haven't listened to anything else in 48 hours.I think every track is great. Some are better than others. Some people fall, some people fly and You wanna what?are two of my favorites right now.Stay Awhile is also great.Yes some of the songs have "cross-over" potential but it's definately a country CD.Besides I'm a music fan not just a country fan.Mark my words this young lady has talent and she'll be around for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The title says it all!, February 3, 2000

I need to be honest with my readers--I almost didn't buy this CD. I first heard "I'm Diggin' It" when I saw the video on Great American Country, and I was completely disgusted. It seemed as if Alecia was only trying to be another Britney Spears instead of finding her own style of performing. I myself am not partial to the Britney Spears style, so I didn't like her much at first. Then I starting reading reviews of the album, and I decided that, as a fan of Lila McCann, Jessica Andrews, and the other teen country divas, I might want to give it a shot. And I am EXTREMELY glad I did! This CD is absolutely phenomenal. Alecia has one of the most versatile voices I have ever heard in country music, let alone any musical genre. I especially liked "Some People Fall, Some People Fly" and "Some Say I'm Running"--alone she sounds GREAT on every track, these two really show what a powerful voice she has. If you are a fan of country music, and even if you're not, you definitely want to get this album. The title says it all--I'M DIGGIN' IT--and you will, too!

When I first heard I'm diggin it on CMT, I could've sworn it was another Britney Spears. How can this even be classified as country? She sounds like a teeny bopper! There's no doubt she has a great voice, but she needs to actually sing great songs. If you're a fan of Britney Spears or Shania Twain, buy this. But if you're like me, and want real country, by Lee Ann Womack, Sara Evans, or Patty Loveless.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a voice! Looks like Shania and Reba have a follower!, March 1, 2000
This review is from: I'm Diggin It (Audio CD)
I totally dig this cd! Alecia is so overwhelming! I bet she'll be the next Reba or Shania, cause' with a voice like that, she'll be around making music for a long time! Plus, she co-wrote some of the songs,so she might be able to write her own material, unlike some other country/pop divas. All the songs are fantastic, but the ones that express her true vocalistic talent are "I'm Waiting For You"(This one brought me to cryin'), "Every Heart"(I like the message in this one, it's true.), and "Some Say I'm Running"(Alecia sounds like Shania Twain in this track). In other words, buy this cd! you won't be sorry, i can promise you that !
