BE HAPPY TO BE WHO YOU ARE,
This review is from: I'm a Duck! (Hardcover)
The story of this feathered rascal is related in bouncing rhyme suitable for young readers. It's an upbeat tale all about one who is delighted to be who he is. "Yup, by some magnificent stroke of good luck, I'm a duck!" He's thrilled to be able to quack and finds his webbed feet a treat. Not only that but he can waddle, paddle, and even fly. But, what really makes his mallard tail curl is the discovery of a duck that's a girl. It's not long before he builds a nest for his freckle feathered bride who soon presents him with a number of eggs. Sloat's rhymes are lively and her illustrations presented in vivid color - a treat for young eyes and ears. - Gail Cooke

I love this book. My little girl loved it too. It is a sweet story of a duck that is so thrilled with who he is - shouldn't we all be thrilled with who we are. The first time I read the book I think I got more out of it than my daughter. This would also be a great gift for a dad to give his child as it also shows a dad's love for being a dad.

This story is so much fun to read. The rhyming and rhythm are great, as are the illustrations. I think when my son (16 months) is a few months older he will enjoy "quacking" along at the right parts. (The refrain is "it gives me a thrill so I open my bill and I QUACK.") What a great book for parents AND children. It's one of our favorites for sure. Also, it would make a really great gift for a dad (Father's Day, baby shower, or whenever), especially a dad who's very good about fetching snacks for his pregnant wife, like mine is. I didn't buy it as a gift for him, but I wish I had. :)

Nice read-aloud with lots of quacking!,
This review is from: I'm a Duck! (Mass Market Paperback)
I teach young children and I love finding books that involve children in movement or sound or chanting. This very happy story of a duck has LOTS of quacking which 3's and 4's love. IT's also very cute at the ned when the duck becomes a dad! I highly recommend this delightful book for read-aloud story time.

I ADORE THIS BOOK!,

This review is from: I'm a Duck! (Mass Market Paperback)
To me, this book is magical. The illustrations are superb and really so is the writing. As other reviewers have written it is a very positive story about finding delight and joy in how (the duck)was made and in (the duck's) wife, and in being a dad. I kept wondering if it was written in the 1930's or 40's as I read it, not knowing until I finished reading it that it is a contemporary book. It's not terribly long, it rhymes, it is fun to read to kids, and it's nice to not have to read some modern book with fresh kids in it, or obnoxious themes, or worse, some green agenda.

The Loveliest Duck Around,
This review is from: I'm a Duck! (Mass Market Paperback)
I first discovered this book when reading a bedtime story to my three year old nephew. I was immediately drawn in by the gentle colors (so many children's books can be blinding) and soft style of the art. The rhyme scheme was beautifully simple, and was wonderful to read out loud. But the big seller, the thing that made this one of my favorite books of all time, is the protagonist, a cheerful, hardworking, lovable duck who takes the greatest joy in everything around him. Truly a delight.

This Duck is in Luck!,

This review is from: I'm a Duck! (Hardcover)
Since I started my review series "Agent0042 Goes Ducky" I have yet to find a better celebration of pure duckiness than Teri Sloat's "I'm a Duck!" This book is the story of a duck who loves his life from the moment he is born. From flying to webbed feet, he feels that absolutely nothing beats being a duck. The illustrations are rich and lively and the text is a lively rhyming tale with some great humor as well.
An amazing celebration of life and a coming of age story as well. Anyone ca find something to enjoy in this well-presented slice of life. This review is the sixth in the "Agent0042 Goes Ducky" series. The fifth was "Come On, Baby Duck!"
