Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Martin Mull was actually a musician before he was a standup comedian, and all of his records mix music with his own peculiar brand of skewed irony. And this record, which charted for ABC in 1977, is no exception, Mull riffs in a jazzy, sorta Fats Waller s

5.0 out of 5 stars They don't make em like this anymore, April 24, 2003
By "dug811" (Fort Myers, FL United States) - See all my reviews
Martin Mull was one of the funniest and most entertaining music/comedy acts of any generation. Ironically, he is best known for his subsequent acting career! At any rate, this is the latest and most accomplished album of his music career and features songs from almost every popular style of music from jazz to country & western to disco to Philly Soul, with Steve Martin and the "Men" song thrown in for good measure. The incredible and hilarious duet with Melissa Manchester on "They Never Met" is worth the price of the album. If only Martin Mull would go back into the studio before it's too late!!! Buy this album, now.

3.0 out of 5 stars A classic Martin Mull album finally on CD, September 11, 2002
I'm Everyone I've Ever Loved was always my favorite of Martin Mull's ABC albums (though Sex & Violins does have more than a few choice moments), so it's always surprised me that it wasn't available on CD. Well, the fine folks at Laugh.com have made it available (and it's NOT an import, unless California has secretly seceded from the Union), having licenced the album from Universal Music.

The good: Audience favorites "Men" and "The humming song", plus guest appearances by the likes of Tom Waits, Rob Reiner, Robert Klein, and (if I'm not mistaken) Harry Shearer, not to mention musical contributions by the likes of Ron Carter, Melissa Manchester, and Richard Tee.

The bad, or not-quite-as-good: The between-song bits aren't banded (they were on the original LP), full credits and song lyrics aren't included (had Universal chosen to reissue it themselves, they might have had the budget to print a proper booklet with full artwork and whatnot), and the sound quality is a little dull.

Overall, a good chance to hear an underrated comedic talent at one of the peaks of his career.

4.0 out of 5 stars Must-Have Comedy Classic, December 27, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What is amazing about this release is the quality of the musicianship -- Martin is joined by a host of crack LA session men, including Ron Carter, Steve Gadd, Steve Khan, and many other top-notch musicians. It really shows -- each song here is a classic, from the hilarious title track (a Martin Mull love letter to Martin Mull) to the Philly Soul workout "Boogeyman," to the sailing ode "Men" ("throw your rubbers overboard there's no one here but men...."). This one is rare and getting rarer, for some reason no one wants to reissue these classic disks. Please -- re-release his other albums!! As Mull himself would sing -- "I'm right there when I need me and I'm not, when I don't."
