5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of the 1990s., July 16, 2001
By Peace Brotha (Ohio, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I'm Here for You (Audio CD)
Ann Nesby has "soul" -- period. Because she's NOT in her early twenties, she's got a tad more experience in delivering what she's singing about than some of our younger talented divas. She really gives it what she's got, and that's saying something!

Ann's voice is to be reckoned with. Listen to any of Sounds of Blackness' pre-1997 recordings (she was the featured soloist during that time), and you'll know what I mean. But with the outstanding production by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on this album, this CD is a must have for anyone that is remotely interested in R&B music. This CD was released in 1996 and sounds just as fresh today as it did then, a testament to its quality.

I just hope Ann Nesby's next album -- whenever it comes out! -- is just as good. In the meantime though, enjoy "I'm Here For You." It will not let you down.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Invitation., August 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: I'm Here for You (Audio CD)
On this steller debut from the former Sounds Of Blackness frontwoman, Ann Nesby has truly outdone herself. Since this album came out about three years ago, I've been recommending it to friends everywhere. This smooth Jam/Lewis produced project has something for everyone. Flagrant R&B, dance, gospel and a few killer ballads starting with I'm Still Wearing Your Name, an ole to a lost love. I'll Do Anything For You speaks for itself. (What A) Lovely Evening is great for a candlelight dinner in winter. Lord I Need You is Ann at her gut-wrenching best. Can I Get A Witness is hot for the jeep. With its thumping base line, it's the right ingredient for any club, house party, or church for that matter. These are just a few of the jewels in this collection by Ms. Nesby. In the mist of a record company shuffle involving Perspective Records/A&M Records, it may be a while before we hear from her again. Also involved in this shuffle are The Sounds Of Blackness (hense the dismal sales of their last effort Time For Healing), Lo-Key?, and Solo. Until this matter is resolved, this CD will stand as one of the best R&B projects by a female in the 90's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, Funky and Soulful Music, January 31, 2005
This review is from: I'm Here for You (Audio CD)
I've had this album for about 6 years now and still listen to it frequently. I love every track on the album-there is no filler on it at all. There is also something for everyone on the album. Whether it be pop, R&B, dance, gospel or soulful ballads, Ann Nesby delivers on her first solo effort post Sounds of Blackness.

The polished production of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis keeps her sound consistent. The music and overall sound is uplifting and inspirational. Her track "This Weekend" is reminiscent of early Al Green while "In The Spirit" is very much like Sounds of Blackness. I listen to "Lord, How I Need You" when I'm need of inspiration and affirmation. I highly recommend this album.
