A classic CD to hold onto,

As I've said before, until a Patti LaBelle box set appears that includes all her materpieces, these old CDs are still worth buying for the tracks that don't appear on the current selection of greatest hits CDs. This CD was a classic when it came out. "If Only You Knew" shows the power and depth of Patti's voice, singing a torch song as only Patti can. It is a touching song of unblossomed love, soul with out being sappy. "I'm in Love Again", the title track, is upbeat and again is a showcase for Patti's vocal ability. It doesn't appear on greatest hits collections, that is why I've kept this CD to this day. The other gem is "Love Need and Want You". For those who listen to current music, you may recognize it sampled on "Dilemma" by Nelly and Kelly Rowland.

The BEST Patti solo CD?!,

If Only You Knew, I'm in Love Again, Loverman, Love Bankrupt, When Am I Gonna Find True Love, Love Need and Want You - ENUFF SAID! This could be Patti's most consistent, best album ever - and that's saying a lot - a pitch-perfect, soul-stirring snapshot of 80s quiet storm soul. Worth the price of admission for the legendary "vocal break" toward the end of IF ONLY YOU KNEW - no one, I mean NO ONE, works a lyric like MISS PATTI! She deserves a box set, but until then, you need this album (and all her others) just for the oft-overlooked sublime album tracks. This is no exception.

Love Need and Want You , Patti,

This is a great album from the wonderful R&B personality Patti LaBelle. The first half is a treat of slow jams that goes from jazzy "Lover Man" to dowright heartwrenching R&B "Love Need and Want You". "Love Need and Want You" is a masterpiece that is one of those songs that takes you away with it's floating melody, and it is followed by her smash "If Only You Knew".Anyone who reads this obviously has love for Ms. LaBelle, so take it from me, this is a good place to start if you have none of her music or a great addition to any collection. It's smooth and satisfying.

Patti's best album so far.,

This album is a classic. I listen to it often. All eight songs are great. The only negative thing I can say about it is that it is ONLY eight songs. This is the album where 'If Only You Knew' is from (worth buying just for this). She is so talented, she can sing anything.
************************** I wrote the above eight years ago and I am still impressed with this album. It's truly a soul classic. Flawless, really. There's not a bad moment on the album. I can't think of another album I would say that about. If you want to hear how it should be done, get this album.

PATTI AT HER VERY BEST,

This is the super talented Patti showcasing her powerhouse voice in a setting that compliments her gift in every way. The musical arrangements are lush yet tasteful and lend a smooth flow to the entire project. These are the kinds of songs one wants to hear Patti sing.....and sing em she does. Gamble and Huff toned Patti's powerful instrument down a notch and guided her through eight restrained performances.Every song stands out, but If Only You Knew is one of the best vocal performances in reorded music. If you've slept on this one ...you're missing out.

Patti becomes a Superstar with her solo breakthrough album,
By koolrico (New York, U.S.) - See all my reviews

With this, Patti's sixth solo album, "I'm in Love Again", Patti finally became a superstar with her soulful, thrilling mix of Pop/Soul love songs, smooth mid tempos and funky uptempo songs! This album includes the hit songs "Love, Need and Want You", "If Only You Knew" and "I'll Never Never Give Up." All of the album tracks such as "When Am I Gonna Find True Love", "Love Brankrupt" and the title track are just as fabulous! This album is very constant overall in every way! A highly recommended album!

I've always been a huge Patti(and Labelle for that matter)fan. Back in 1984 I was atttending Radioman "A" school in San Diego,Ca when we got the news that Patti Labelle,Luther Vandross,Bobby Womack(w/Sly Stone for like 10 minutes) and The New Edition were doing a show at Chargers Stadium for $17:00 bucks...we knew we had too go!! I recall this particular Labelle album with the track "if only you knew" a smooth soulful piece that stills rings in my mind today, this album was a big deal in 1984 as we would play it(on cassette tape ofcourse) throught the barracks. The rest of the album is great. I really cant say enough about this album that has'nt been said already towards the positive note.

Get this if for no reason then for two uptempo scorchers-thefrenetic "Body Language" and the "New Attitude"-like "I'll Never, Never Give Up".The smoother "When Am I Gonna Find True Love" is as always for Labelle quite fine and even Side A's clutch of ballads are imbedded with her characteristic class and fire.Worth having in every respect! |
