The Coca-Cola Girl is Back, and She's Better Than Ever,
By "dodgers1203" (Kelseyville, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I'm Just a Girl (Audio CD)
The Coca-Cola girl is back, and she's better than ever. After going through the harsh transition between Capitol and Arista, not to mention a divorce, Deana Carter is back. Her new album contains 12 new tracks, combining the country-pop sound of her first album, and the more traditional sound of her second album. The tracks of the album are as follows :1) I'm Just A Girl - The title track of the album, and probably a future release. Should it be released it will probably climb the charts. A great song! 2) There's No Limit - Her current single which is climbing up the charts. With the sexy video to go with it, it should climb to #1. 3) You & Tequila - A very emotional song about drinking and its affect on the lives of others. One of the better ballads on the album. 4) Me & The Radio - The best song on the Cd. A simple song about leaving life behind. A possible single. 5) Cover of a Magazine - An uptempo song about how the world sees you. Very good. 6) Wildflower - A very relaxing song, but just OK. 7) Twice As Worth It - Another song about love, but than again just OK. 8) Eddie - Another one of the great song's on the CD. A very uptempo song about finding love in a gas station. :) 9) Waiting - Deana's first ever duet. She sings the emotional ballad about love, with Dwight Yoakam, a close friend. Another possible single. 10) Liar - An uptempo song about being cheated. Just listen to the chorus. :) 11) Goodbye Train - Another one of my personal favorites. Could do very well on radio. 12) Girl's Night - It's a rock song, so watch out!

What Happened?,

This review is from: I'm Just a Girl (Audio CD)
I loved Deana Carter's last 2 CD's, and was excited to get "I'm Just a Girl", but...what happened? The songs are just flat out disappointing, except for There's No Limit. No surprise that No Limit was the radio single released to hype the CD before it became available. But nothing else on the album sounds like There's No Limit. The first song, "I'm Just a Girl", is okay - but pretty bubblegum poppish and she keeps singing about a back seat in a Corvette - doesn't exist! (Just a mild annoyance.) The third track, "You and Tequila" is a downer, but Matraca Berg has songwriting credit here so it's good. The album falls apart after the first 3 songs. Some of it is truly unbearable ("Girls Night Out") but most is just forgettable. Hope her next effort is back up to speed.

Solid "B" grade for Carter,

She won't ever top Did I Shave My Legs For This - its sounds like Carter is trying to enter pop music, but honey, you are country! I like the fact that she wrote a few songs on this album on her own, so she is getting better. Cover of a Magazine and Wildflower are my particular favorites. I'd buy it if you are a Deana Carter fan - wouldn't recommend it for somebody that is new to Carter's music.
