Well, for starters you've got 19-year old enigmatic front-man Andy Hull crafting delicately poignant songs that speak well beyond his years. His voice rings pure and honest, gently sharing eloquent stories of hope, loss, and love. The band provides an intelligent mouthpiece for their generation, providing the words that will surely be scrawled lovingly within the cover of spiral-notebooks across the nation. Musically, Manchester Orchestra is equally mature. Its 2006 LP release I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child showcases a diverse range of musical styles, and is receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from anyone who listens. It currently sits in the top 10 sellers at influential indie-retailer Criminal Records. Overall it's a masterful pairing of smart lyrics and memorable hooks. Manchester Orchestra has been attracting attention outside of their hometown of Atlanta as well, picking up slots on the nation's most prestigious music festivals including South by Southwest '06 and Lollapalooza. -LooneyTunes

I heard "Wolves at Night" on XM and bought this CD purely on the strength of that song (and after listening to only three other samples on Amazon). 25 plays later and I still can't get enough of it (my partner is threatening divorce). A close second favorite is "I Can Barely Breathe," and I'm sure more will join that category after a few more listens. The comparison to Conor Oberst above is spot on: Andy Hull has his quiet introspection, along with the plaintive angst of Robert Smith, mixed with occasional angry, blaring synth riffs that are downright addictive. This won't be leaving my playlist for a long time to come.

First of all I gladly give it a 4.5 not 4 stars but since there is no half measures I must stick with 4 stars, for 5 would make it a perfect album and we all know how hard are those type of albums to come by. That said I am thrilled to own this CD. These guys are certainly very good at what they do and their songs are one notch above what I probably was expecting before I listened to the whole CD. One thing I must point out is that is my experience that the really good albums grow with more listens and I have no doubt this one will do that. One thing I treasure more than anything else is the musicality that is offered, regardless of the genre. I am finally burned out of just loud driving beats, with repetitive sounds. I don't care how fast the band is, if they do not show musicality I will get rid of it. Manchester Orchestra are really something. Their lead vocal is very good and the songs all are well built. You see, this is where I go wrong! Saying something like well built takes away from the overall pleasure of listening to "Im like a Virging Losing a Child". There is depth to this band and the whole CD is Brilliantly Executed. There are a couple of songs that caught me off guard which immediately reinforced my belief that these guys are pretty good. I continue on my never ending search for talent in the world of music and I am very happy to say Manchester Orchestra is a proud member of my ever growing collection. Who cares if I spend money like there is no tomorrow if the end result are bands like Manchester Orchestra. 4.5 Stars for this above average group!

Easily one of my new favorite albums,
This review is from: I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child (Audio CD)
In a music scene that seems to be becoming more and more accepting of mediocrity, it's refreshing to find the occasional diamond in the rough like Manchester Orchestra. With intelligent lyrics and engaging music, Manchester Orchestra hits the nail on the head with their debut album, "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child" in a way that most up-and-coming bands only wish they could. Manchester Orchestra features a perfect balance of simplicity and complexity in their songwriting, and a powerful and engaging live performance to boot.

I first discovered Manchester Orchestra when they went on tour with Brand New. I was simply blown away by their performance. Needless to say this is one of my favorite albums of all time.

I found Manchester Orchestra from a New York Times review, and I am glad I did. I love this album. I have listened to it repeatedly, and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Andy Hull looks to be the real thing, and the rest of the band is great too. Check out their official podcasts on YouTube. I hope to see them live someday. Buy this!

My favorite album of all time.,
This review is from: I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child (Audio CD)
I have listened to a lot of different music. I listen to everything from French techno to Led Zeppelin. I discovered Manchester Orchestra when they opened for the Kings of Leon. It was the best show of my life. They blew me away. I went home and bought the CD. I have listened to each song at a couple dozen times and never get tired of it. Every song is loud and powerful. No matter what mood you are in there is a song on here for you to listen to. With out a doubt this is my favorite album ever. I love it. In fact I'm listening to it right now. There's no way you can go wrong in buying this CD.

I can't believe I got such a great deal on this CD. This is a very awesome CD, different from any of ManO's new stuff, kind of gloomy and catchy at the same time.

I really loved this cd. Even though I bought it used, you would never know it. It looks brand new and plays like it too. I will say though as far as the music goes, I like the Everything to Nothing album ever so slightly more.
