Pickett: Deep and Satisfying,
By
This review is from: I'm in Love (Audio CD)
"I'm In Love" is a superb and satisfying collection, and one of Wilson Pickett's most mature Atlantic albums. Recorded in mid-1967 at American Studios in Memphis, the album steps away from the sexy, high-energy hits of the mid-60s into deeper emotional waters thanks, in part, to the involvement of Bobby Womack. Womack, always a great collaborator (great recordings by artists as varied as Sly Stone, The Rolling Stones' Ron Wood, and Gabor Szabo), provides both marvelous guitar playing and a very personal songwriting voice to "I'm In Love", especially on the title hit - a true deep soul classic - and the closing number, "I've Come A Long Way." Other steller guests include the great sax player King Curtis, who also contributes a song, and co-producer Tommy Cogbill. Collectables is the label to most recently issue this album on CD, but if you can find it I recommend the 1995 Rhino ('five star soul') edition, superbly mastered from the original mono masters. The Rhino edition features some excellent bonus tracks as well as detailed liner notes, whereas Collectables skips all the extras. Other highlights include the torrid "Jealous Love" and Don Covay's "That Kind Of Love," but this album is really emotionally and musically powerful from start to finish.

This review is from: I'm in Love (Audio CD)
This is from Pickett and Womack collaboration. But for me it was regret to listen this album. Pickett recorded better albums in his career. Highpoints are songs I'm in love, She's lookin' good and I've come a long way.
NOTE: On my original Atlantic/Rhino reissue is written - as stereo masters for this reissue could not be located, the mono version has been chosen - it is a sham.
