5.0 out of 5 stars Although short.. still a HOTT book!
Although, very short, this was a very GOOD book! Being short I was worried that the characters or the story line would not be well developed, but I worried for no reason. Both was on point. I am so HAPPY that I picked it up. The main character "Lovie" is a very successful black woman (thank-god), who goes to a strip club one evening with her girls and falls for a...

Although, very short, this was a very GOOD book! Being short I was worried that the characters or the story line would not be well developed, but I worried for no reason. Both was on point. I am so HAPPY that I picked it up. The main character "Lovie" is a very successful black woman (thank-god), who goes to a strip club one evening with her girls and falls for a stripper- "Merciless". Like the title states, 'She falls in love with him'. This book was so LIVE! I was laughing with the characters because they were hilarious and believable. I think Mink did her thing in her first book. It was very well written and stayed on point. It had good sex scenes, lots of hilarious moments. Just a good read-- point blank!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great late night read, August 8, 2006
This review is from: I'm In Luv With A Stripper (Paperback)
Lovie is a woman with many degrees and important social status on the outside looking in...but then she meets Merciless..oh my!! after a night out with her girlfriends at a strip club. What I took away from the book was that Lovie had to realize that love is not in the material things but the love a person has to offer you. Dante Blac aka Merciless helps Lovie to realize this. This was a good read....Many Inquire,Nobody Knows and you won't know if you don't cop this joint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy Read, August 1, 2006
This review is from: I'm In Luv With A Stripper (Paperback)
This is my first time posting a message, but I enjoyed this book so much that I made it my business to meet the author in Borders Express this past weekend when I heard she was going to be signing at the Central Market Mall.

I'm in luv with a stripper was a fast read that left me wanting more of Lovie, Dante Blac, and the Jazzy Diva Girls. I thought Lovie was a grounded professional woman who allowed herself to enjoy life to the fullest when she was around her childhood girlfriends. Some of their cat fights and pranks were funny, not always in good taste, but very entertaining.

As a professional woman myself, I would never have Lovie's nerve, but I did enjoy her spirit, and the relationship she had with her mother.

I only have two questions, does the character Dante Blac really exist? He is a 10 in every way, and when does the sequel drop. I can't wait.

Ms. Toni, R. Kelly was not misrepresented by Mink. There is no underground bootleg version. R. Kelly does rap and sing on T-pains re-mix of I'm in Luv with a Stripper. He raps if I could I'd put my whole damn head in it, (then he sings) Cause I'm in Luv with a stripper.

There are about five versions of this song, and you can download the version off line. It's the re-mix with T-pain, Twister, Paul Wall, Too-Short, R. Kelly and more.

3.0 out of 5 stars With A Stripper In Your Life Who Needs Friends, July 27, 2006
This review is from: I'm In Luv With A Stripper (Paperback)
Lovie - Beautiful Corporate Attorney with hoe tendencies. Number one in her Jazzy Diva clique, Lovie tries to show her girls that it is time to get up out the hood. Though she holds three degrees, makes six figures, drives a luxury car and owns her own home by the age of twenty-seven, she still finds it her business to hang out with her "rat" friends. Do you smell trouble?

Faye aka Mink - Mother of Lovie and Queen Pen of Divaism. She has done all she could to teach her daughter that being a diva is her soul purpose in life. By the time Lovie was old enough to like boys, Mink's words were "it doesn't matter how old you get, always keep your nails and your panties clean." Making sure that she doesn't have to take Lovie's diva cards, Mink continues to keep a close eye and ear on her daughter. Will all her teachings be in vain?

Merciless aka Dante Blac - A well-known and well-endowed stripper. Seeing Lovie makes him want to change his ways and become her homie lover friend. Knowing what type of woman he is dealing with, can he make Lovie break her rules to deal with him being a lowlife stripper?

The Jazzy Clique - Anita, Lisa, Meko, Kim and Jade have been friends with Lovie for over 20 years. They are tired of dealing with her fake ways since she has become the high powered attorney. Knowing that they are going against all the diva rules, they insist on showing Lovie that her life is not all roses.

Where should I begin with my comments? What started off as something exciting (the first two chapters) lead to pure immaturity. As a 27 year old, I cannot imagine my friends nor myself carrying on like this. What constitutes being a diva nowadays? Can anyone be a diva? If I am a diva does being a hoe come along with it? If I am a diva, should I hang around broke and uneducated rats? Do divas play jokes on each other? Do I even go to strip clubs? If I am a true diva, do I break the rules at all? Do I get upset with mama and aunt diva for flirting with my man? Maybe in the sequel my questions will be answered.

This review is from: I'm In Luv With A Stripper (Paperback)
Can you say WACK?!?! I don't know what made me buy this book, but I should've saved my money. There was NO plot and the story was just boring. Mink needs some more practice...DON'T WASTE YOU TIME OR MONEY ON THIS ONE.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read that only took me about 4 hours if that. Merciless...lord what can I say? Where can I find him!!!! Lovie's character was enjoyable and her mother kept me in stitches. Her friends were haters but the love they had for each other was evident. As mentioned I enjoyed the book, but not enough for a 5 rating. However, I will definitely pruchase future works from this author.

This book was very good but I expected more based on the reviews. The book held my attention and I finished in 2 days. I felt the story could have gone a little further. Maybe a sequel in the near future. I look forward to the next book from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who need friends like that?, December 31, 2006
This review is from: I'm In Luv With A Stripper (Paperback)
This was a very easy read, and I really enjoyed it. The book was about a Antoinette aka "Lovie" who was doing the darn thing when it came to taking care of business. She was a lawyer and she was almost hitting the millionare mark. But you know with friends like hers who need enemies. Antoinette girls paid a stripper to turn her out, I can't even say paid, cause it was something like 2 dollar or something. Anyway this stripper who name is Dante Black turned Lovie out and stole her heart. Dante couldn't keep the secret going because he was in love with Lovie so he told her what her suppose to be "girls did. Lovie got her girls back at the end, you got to read it and find out how. But great book, can't wait for the sequel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Midnight fantasy, July 27, 2006
By
This review is from: I'm In Luv With A Stripper (Paperback)
Antoinette Cleveland, known as Lovie, has been raised to be a D-I-V-A. Classy, educated and ambitious, sister has 3 degrees. She's a corporate attorney living in ATL. What else could Lovie want? How about a prospect with the right credentials that is worthy enough to impress her mentor/friend/mother. BUT, so far all of the ones she thought had finally won the chance to be that guy, have left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Her girls, the Jazzy Divas, decide since they're all single to ring in Valentines' day at a strip club. Not really into the strip club scene, Lovie decides after some visual persuasion that she could risk one night away from her world long enough to LEAN WIT IT!

Before it's all said and done, Ms. Prim & proper is singing a new tune using all of the wrong lyrics as she finds that she is mercilessly caught up. Second guessing herself, Lovie wonders if it's worth the drama.

I'M IN LUV WITH A STRIPPER is a swift read concerning friendships, relationships and defining lines. While many readers will be pleased with the images other readers will feel snubbed by the rushed ending. The title + cover leave very little to the imagination, HOWEVER, I expected M.I.N.K to construct this into a masterpiece. Good thing I'm into giving second chances.
