Review

"Hollister Rand's ability to deliver messages is compassionate yet educational.  Whether in person, on radio, on TV, or in this book...she delivers." --John Edward, Author of Infinite Quest

"Popular clairvoyant offers a clear-eyed look at young spirits and the afterlife." --Kirkus Review

From the Back Cover

At first, world-renowned medium Hollister Rand was puzzled as to why persistent young spirits wanted to speak through her.  But with time and patience the answer came.  No death is more difficult to comprehend than a child's.  Young spirits, therefore, are more motivated to make sense of it all for those devastated by their passing.  They clearly want to heal broken hearts and change our views of life and death--and they've chosen Hollister to deliver their important messages.

I'm Not Dead, I'm Different is a revelation--offering enlightenment, guidance, and answers to the questions about living, dying, and life after death that many people have been afraid to ask.  Through the strong, compassionate voices of those who have departed our world comes a new understanding of forgiveness, and with it insights into the issues surrounding abortion, murder, suicide, and accidental death.  Speaking with a wisdom that surpasses their years on earth, young spirits provide comfort and inspiration to anyone willing to listen.  What they have to say about living after death can be life-changing for all of us.

More About the Author

Hollister Rand is an internationally renowned medium. Known for her extraordinarily detailed work, she provides specific messages from loved ones living in the spirit world with feeling, heart, and grace.

Hollister is clairvoyant, clairaudient and clairsentient (meaning that she can see, hear and feel the presence of spirits as well as get a sense of their personalities, emotions, physical attributes and illnesses).

"Life is never over," says Hollister Rand. "Those we love are still as interested in our lives as they were when they were here. Damaged relationships can be healed by talking with the spirits; broken hearts can be mended; questions answered. It is never too late to say 'I love you' or 'I'm sorry.' It is never too late to give or receive forgiveness. These opportunities do not end with what we call death."

With her personal charm, sense of humor, and compassion, Hollister makes it seem as though communicating with spirits is an everyday thing. And for her, it is. Even as a very young girl, Hollister started seeing and speaking with spirits. In her grade school years, spirits filled the stairway leading to her bedroom door and surrounded her bed each night. Not always welcomed, these presences made for many restless nights. Through the years, however, Hollister learned to "turn on and turn off" her spirit receptors, and get a good night's sleep.

During the last 15 years, Hollister has moved national and international audiences with messages of love, hope and healing through demonstrations of spirit communication and television and radio appearances. Her messages on KOST FM's, "Angels in Waiting" and KBIG FM's "Radio Medium" have touched the lives of thousands of people. Extending her vision to an online audience, she has teamed up with internationally acclaimed medium John Edward for InfiniteQuest, a "one-stop" portal of resources for the soul. (www.infinitequest.com)

Her interest in supporting the science of spirit communication led Hollister to present seminars and workshops with leading researchers in afterlife science.

Articles about Hollister's work have appeared online in a number of outlets including United Press International, Religion and Spirituality.com, Arcamax, SpiritsNewsletter.org and the Press-Enterprise Newspaper of Southern California, among others. Hollister's monthly email newsletter, MESSAGES ~ Love, Hope and Healing in Spirit, is filled with "how to" articles, inspirational stories, and explores how we all can connect with loved ones in spirit.

Hollister's first book, I'm Not Dead, I'm Different: Kids in Spirit Teach Us About Living a Better Life on Earth, is being released by HarperCollins Publishers on April 19, 2011.

Hollisters authenticity shines as well as her gentle yet powerful voice. With loving clarity Rand is able to take us through the human condition in this world and others leaving growth, love, healing and living alive in her path. A book for true lovers of old school storytelling where the narrative not only places you with the characters, but also takes you on the emotional journey where you can empathize with experiences you never had yourself. A great read with unforgettable moments and messages.

There's something for everybody in this book! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down, I finished it in one sitting! I love how she opened up about her personal experiences. She has a sweet soul and I can understand while children would be drawn to her or anyone else for that matter. The exercises at the end seem easy enough for anyone to try. All in all it's a HIT!!!!

Hollister Rand's new book, I'm not dead, I'm different, is the most comforting book for parents who've lost a child, that I've ever come across. It's so wonderful that there are people who can connect with the spirits of children who have passed to let us know what the other side is like, and most importantly for the grieving parents, that our children are still with us.

Chapters include:
!.This is what it's like to be dead?-What kids say about the death and the afterlife.
2. Playing with Spirits..
3. Oops!- What kids say about dying by accident
4. Who's your Daddy?-When bloodlines matter, and when they don't.
5. By My Own Hand--Kids in the afterlife talk about suicide. (With the rash of suicides happening lately, this chapter has to be particularly comforting to parents confronting their worse fears.)
6. We shall Overcome--Addictions in life and death
7. Peer Pressure-How kids in spirit help kids on earth.
8. Over Before it Started-Aborted, Miscarried and stillborn children speak.
9. It's just Wrong-Murder, genocide, and other crimes against humanity.
10. Bringing Heaven Home-How kids say 'hi' from the other side.

Each chapter begins with a 'spirit tweet' such as this one from chapter one: "Heaven is a state of mind".(From a nineteen-year-old in spirit who struggled here on earth with depression.)

"Spirits don't judge the value of life by its length, but rather by how much they learned about how to give and receive love". page 189 How wonderful would our world be if we all judged our lives by how much we loved? How could there be war if we all knew that we lived life and life? If we believed that we were all ultimately in charge of our own lives?

Hollister is a Gifted Communicator and Writer. I have read many many books on the Afterlife including the well known John Edward and let me tell you HER book is the best, most informative, satisfying read on the afterlife. I savored every word and hated for it to end. So I think I shall read it again! And so will you!

I haven't even finished this book, but I feel compelled to give it a good rating so more people will read it. I loved it from the first few sentences. I just lost a dear friend and so far have found this book to be greatly comforting. Although this book has kids in the title, it helps us to understand our relationships with the people that have passed of all ages. I have so much more hope for the future now and can feel myself letting go of the old social paradigms of death. Life is just the beginning!

Having just moved from the midwest to California and in the midst of starting my own book, I met Hollistar Rand at the SDSU Book Writers Conference. It was such a treat to meet her and hear her story, I recall thinking only in California would someone be so open and honest about being a medium. Well we both landed book deals after that weekend, and it has been great fun watching the process of creating a book. Although I admit I was a bit skeptical about someones ability to actually connect with the "otherside" I was excited to buy Hollisters book. I am just about to finish the book and I must say it is wonderful!! The stories are lessons told through spirit (mostly children) she has encountered and the lessons are insighful for life (in the here and now). Forgiveness, hope, and help a great message. If you have ever dealt with the death of a close relative or friend and wonder what the otherside is like this is the book to read. The explanations are grounded and are rationale for anyone who wanted to explore what mediumship is about... all the best Hollister as this books takes off like angel wings (the ones I am sure you have)... "'Heaven is a state of mind' (from a nineteen-year-old in spirit who struggled on earth with depression)" opens Chapter One of Hollister Rand's "I'm Not Dead, I'm Different". The wisdom and depth from young people who have crossed over provides solace, enlightenment, and hope for anyone who has lost a loved one and especially for parents who have lost children. Ms. Rand seamlessly weaves the fascinating narratives of meetings with families and the communication from their children with a section for answering related questions. Overall, her engaging, warm, conversational style is a pleasure to read and will leave you hopeful and inspired.
