Editorial Reviews

Though this 1983 album is commonly thought of as a Mick Fleetwood solo record, it really was the product of a band, and one helluva band at that! Aside from the Fleetwood Mac drummer who lays down the primal, bedrock rhythms for which he is famous, and for which his only rival could be Charlie Watts the denizens of this Zoo include the great Billy Burnette and Steve Ross on guitar and vocals, session bass player supreme George Hawkins and, on background vocals, none other than Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham (the band got its start backing Buckingham on a Saturday Night Live appearance). Though the album was produced by Richard Dashut, who had produced Rumors and Tusk, I'm Not Me was almost the anti-Tusk, a low-key affair showcasing the considerable singing and songwriting talents of Burnette, Ross and Hawkins, and featuring such inspired cover choices as the Beach Boys' "Baby Come Home," Lloyd Price's "Just Because" and Billy's homage to his father Dorsey and uncle Johnny, "Tear It Up." Given the talent assembled and the fact that it scored a hit in "I Want You Back," it's truly amazing that this engaging, infectious album has never been out on CD our Real Gone reissue includes notes by Scott Schinder that place I'm Not Me in its proper Fleetwood and Mac context.

Mick Fleetwood's Zoo was a side group that Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood put together in 1983 while the other members were off doing their own solo projects. Fleetwood did however enlist Mac members Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie (as well as future Mac guitarist Billy Burnette) to join him. The result is a very Fleetwood Mac sounding album without actually being Fleetwood Mac. Mick's previous solo album, "The Visitor" was an experimental album recorded in Africa, this time around he went for a more mainstream pop sound. Despite the Fleetwood Mac ties and the radio friendly sound, the album wasn't a hit. It did have one fan favorite video made for the song "I Want You Back" the song features Lindsey Buckingham on lead vocals, the video features not only Lindsey, but Stevie Nicks as well. Stevie's part is at the very end and a portion of this shoot was used at the start of Stevie's own "If Anyone Falls" video.
The Zoo would later reform with a different line-up in 1992 and a harder rock sound, but "I'm Not Me" is a close cousin to Fleetwood Mac's "Mirage". This is a great forgotten album that has finally been issued on CD and is worth the listen.

The wait is over! Been wanting to pick this up on CD forever (my LP is worn out!). This a great effort by a great band. Contains an amazing version of the lost classic "Angel Come Home" and "I Want You Back" is a great Fleetwood/Buckingham collaboration. George Hawkins' vocals on "Tonight" are a revelation. Burnette is smokin' hot on "Tear It Up". Can't recommend this highly enough...

Finally they have re-released this true classic solo album by Mick Fleetwood's Zoo. The only copy that I previously owned of this album was a store bought cassette and it's on it's last leg. Bravo!!

This album is better than the visitor. Songs are better, He didn't have much of a solo career, but he defenitly can play drums.
