Book Description

August 2002
If there's anything Karen Linamen knows, it's that sometimes life can feel crazy. She also knows that hope, healing, and humor go hand in hand. This new book offers plenty of each. I'm Not Suffering from Insanity...I'm Enjoying Every Minute of It! follows on the heels of her best-selling Sometimes I Wake Up Grumpy...and Sometimes I Let Him Sleep and, like her other books, is crammed with laugh-out-loud observations, intimate confessions, sound advice, and heartfelt encouragement. With suggestions ranging from the side-splitting to the sublime, Linamen shows women who feel they're "going crazy" how to jumpstart stalled friendships, practice their passions, embrace God's unconditional love, and replace grudges with gratitude. In the process, she reveals how to get well-groomed eyebrows that will outlast a Maytag washer and even how to experience better living through crown molding-all without missing a punch line. With her trademark transparency and wit intact, Linamen encourages women once again to embrace passion, wellness, and joy in every area of their lives. Sanity, as she points out, is optional.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Women who have shared Linamen's hilarious life journeys in Just Hand Over the Chocolate and No One Will Get Hurt and Sometimes I Wake Up Grumpy... and Sometimes I Let Him Sleep know her writing to be funny, forthright and unforgettable. Linamen continues in her usual comedic style with this offering of 14 ways to combat the insufferable circumstances of life by embracing a sort of "insanity" as a solution in and of itself. Linamen's life is comparable to a leisurely read of the Sunday comics, and she tells all. Guaranteed to produce more than a chuckle, her suggestions for coping with life include stealing furnishings from one room to redecorate another, purchasing matching panties and bras to help enhance "boditude," and selecting a horror film to help a stressed-out spouse relax. Granted, these ideas are presented with tongue planted firmly in cheek, and even Linamen admits her blunders as she speeds along life's highway. She also balances the laughter with serious entreaties to seek for God amidst every circumstance. The author's deep faith, and her conviction that the Bible is the source for all help and direction, comes across plainly, as do her nudgings for women to seek Christ first and foremost. Closing out each chapter is a compact list of practical (read: serious) problem-solving ideas that do work outside of Linamen's funny-farm world. This text is sure to gratify the expectations of the author's faithful readers with a generous dose of the comedic retreat from the stresses of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, something real women can relate to!, October 14, 2002
This review is from: I'm Not Suffering from Insanity...: I'm Enjoying Every Minute of It! (Paperback)
I truly loved this book. Karen details many aspects of her life, which coincedentally, mirror (at least roughly) the lives of myself and many women I know. She tells it like it really is, and shows us how to appreciate what we have. I thoroughly enjoyed her comments relating to friendships, communication, and even sex (I loved the part about the three sweatsuits and a dark coat). I think most everyone who reads this book will take away from it a greater understanding of self and how to cope with life.

I've read and re-read all of Karen's books and I thoroughly enjoy them. I think it's great I'm not the only woman with the same dilemas as she and constantly fighting dog hair from a white german shepard and dust monsters! This particular book really hit home on several accounts: wondering minds, living in the here and now instead of worrying about everything, and just reconnecting friendships you've let slip away. I actually laughed out loud when I read certain passages and say "yup" (texas talk). I highly recommend this book to bring cheer to your spirit and help you feel one is not alone.

Karen shows us that if you can't laugh at your self, you are too stiff and you can breakdown.
