5.0 out of 5 stars The hit single plus three bonus live tracks from Melissa, June 4, 2003
This review is from: I'm the Only One / Maggie May (Audio CD)
Melissa Etheridge does not put out as many CD-Singles as she used to in the early days, which is a shame, because they were great for her fans. The format is almost always the same: you get the requisite hit single, in this case "I'm the Only One" (4:54) from her 1993 album "Yes I Am." But then there are two or three bonus tracks of live performances, one of which is usually the aforementioned hit single. That is the case here, where the final track is a live version of "I'm the Only One" (5:26), while inbetween there is an awesome cover of Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" (6:18), and "Ain't It Heavy" (4:13) from her 1992 album "Never Enough." I added the playing times to show you that this CD-Single has over 20 minutes worth of music. The soundtrack to "Stand By Me" is only a couple of minutes longer than this "CD-Single." So, whereas most singles are a way of getting prospective buyers to think about buying the artist's album, with Melissa Etheridge the singles are ways of rewarding her solid fan base. You put together all of the live tracks from her CD-Singles and you will end up with a pretty good concert. You even get to put together the order of the tracks ("Bring Me Some Water" is a good encore choice).
