early garage mania, May 24, 2000

Though there have been several bands named The Outcasts over the years, THES GUYS FROM SAN ANTONIO TEXAS ARE THE BEST Texas garage band from the '60s! Very versitile and innovative. TORE UP clubs and concerts on a trail from Texas to Hollywood. Contributed to the Texas and southwest roots of Punk, Psychedelia and garage-spun mania. (See "The Great Psychedelic Discography" by Martin Strong ISBN # 0 86241 726 0). Collaborated with Mike Post. Shared billings with many big-name acts, as did their individual members over the years after the band's meltdown. This CD has all but 2 tracks the band ever recorded. Tracks on this CD vary from studio practice to killer finished songs, original and cover. NOTE: As was industry practice in many studios in the '60s, the studio and artists amplifier gains on these tracks are set too low and, to do justice to the band's true character, are better listened to with saturated (high peak) preamp gain or higher. If you don't have preamp gain control, then be sure to listen to these guys on a CD player small enough for you to turn the volume up as loud as possible without sonic break-up. These Outcasts drifted from the spotlight in a Psychedelic haze in 1968, and only 2 of the original 5 members are alive today....

can't wait parts 1 & 2, February 7, 2011
This review is from: I'm in Pittsburg & It's Raining (Audio CD)
i just ordered this disc. just can't wait till it gets here. these guys used to practice down the street from our house the valley high subdivision of san antonio around 1964. my brothers were friends with them and their drummer gave my first set of drum sticks when i was five years old. i have their first single-the ballad "nothing ever comes easy" with "oriental express" a ventures type instrumental. the guys i remember from then were buddy carson-keyboard & vocal, denny turner-lead guitar, ricky wright-drums, and maybe jim carsten-?. i hope the original masters were used. "1523 blair"is worth the price of the disc alone.a little snarly wound-up blistering ball of energy.just like a wild lil'kitten can scratch the hell outta you. once i hear the disc give you an update!
UPDATE TIME....i've listened to the disc several times, hear are my notes...tracks 2,4,5,7 stereo 13,14,15 no vocals. track 16 not listed on the disc or case is a cool stereo mix of "i.m in pittsburg..." instrumental track left, vocals, harmonica, lead guitar right channel! sad to say "1523 blair" used a vinyl source, of which i've heard better. "what price victory" is titled "price of victory" on my orignal ASKEL RECORDS AK-102-B 45 rpm. still at $10 i'ts well worth having in your sixties phsykodilly garage band collection.

Outcasts - 'I'm In Pittsburg And It's Raining' (Collectables), December 30, 2009
This review is from: I'm in Pittsburg & It's Raining (Audio CD)
Good, very decent late '60's garage rock from this Long Island band. Plenty of covers here - like Howling Wolf's "Smokestack Lightning", The Who's "My Generation", the Stones "Route 66", Donovan's "Season Of the Witch" along with (what I assume) to be Outcasts original songs, like the title track "I'm In Pittsburg And It's Raining", "Sweet Mary", "Come On Over" and a couple of others. Line-up: Bruce Williams - guitar & vocals, Mark Foley - rhythm guitar & vocals, Brian Whelan - bass, Chuck Thatcher - organ and Bob Martin - drums & vocals. Should definitely appeal to fans of Barry & The Remains, Monkees, Nightcrawlers, the Cynics, the Haunted and Mouse And the Traps. A nice find.
