I bought this book after listening to the author on a podcast show for pregnant women. Even tho I had found a lot of information about what to eat when I'm pregnant (and what NOT to eat), this book cut thru the confusion, organized the information and made clear to me what was important.

I also learned from this book that being pregnant does NOT mean that I am eating for two, and in fact, clarified exactly what I need to add to my diet, when, and how much, during each stage of pregnancy. Thanks to this book, I knew when it was important to eat certain foods, and I learned not to indulge.

I have not gained too much weight during this pregnancy and I think that is because of the information I learned reading this book.

Also, it's worthwhile to mention that the author includes recipes in the second half of the book. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super helpful April 1, 2013

I found this book to be super helpful. The information was basically nutrition 101, but it was helpful in identifying sources for nutrients that a normally healthy eater still might not get enough of in pregnancy. What I liked best about this book were the recipes and meal plans in the back. They are all VERY simple, filling, and not boring. I also like that it breaks down menus by trimester, and has postpartum breastfeeding planning as well. I also like the inclusion of tips on how to increase calorie intake and weight gain (I had a very hard time eating all first trimester and lost weight), and doesn't shy away from suggesting things like real milk, olive oil, healthy fats, over anything processed.

3.0 out of 5 stars So so December 19, 2012

I did not think this book was very informative at all. I do tend on the slightly alternative side of things, thats why it got 3 stars instead of 1. I understand that some people think that things like fat free milk and super processed food is good during pregnancy, but I just can't see putting tons chemicals in my body the best way to go about nourishing my baby. We try to stick to real food as best as possible.
