5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite male singer in the world...his best effort!, November 18, 2003
This review is from: I'm Ready (Audio CD)
Every time I get in the mood to relax and browse my R&B music collection for music to listen to and come across this album, I am forever reminded why this is my favorite single album of all time. The songs on this album showcase Tevin's immeasurable talent so well, it's like he was BORN to make this album. I still get the same chills as when I first heard "I'm Ready", "Brown Eyed Girl", or "Always in My Heart". Babyface and the other producers on this album seemed as though they were inspired to write music specifically for this young man (at the time). I feel blessed to be a fan and to have this music in my music collection. Thank you, Tevin, Babyface, Narada...all who had anything to do with this album. It is nothing short of perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT: I'm Ready by Tevin Campbell, October 29, 2004

This review is from: I'm Ready (Audio CD)
Tevin Campbell delivers a stellar performance on his album entitled "I'm Ready." Tevin was between 15 and 16 years old when this album was recorded. That makes it even harder to believe that this is on of the best R&B albums of all time. It's really a shame that Tevin just went downhill after this album. He released other albums, but nothing was close to his "I'm Ready" album. He is a truly talented entertainer and this album proves that with the right producers and writers, he can make very nice music. This album touches on quite a few subjects which include racism, love, and God. It has both slow and fast songs.
"Can We Talk" is the first single from "I'm Ready". This is a cute song about someone being nervous to talk to someone they are attracted to. This song was a great success and is probably Tevin's signature song. The song has a mid-tempo beat and is very easy to like. "Brown Eyed Girl" is a very nice song. Tevin's vocals are right on point and the lyrics are enough to make any lady just cry. He croons on this album, and this is one of the songs he does it on. "Uncle Sam" is a song about the need to feel equal to white men. Some of the lyrics to the song are "Didn't I die in Vietnam and didn't I walk in Birmingham?" "Passed your curriculum, got a diploma and can't get a job because my skin has color". Black people relate to this song very easily. It's deep, but not only that, it's true. The albums title track is a nice little love song about being ready to be in a monogamous relationship. "Shhh" is a little raunchy, especially for a young man that's in his mid-teens. This song is about sneaking t have sex. A lot of teens got a kick out of this song.
With the production of Babyface and Prince, this album is a classic for 1993 and forever. Tevin will take you there, he's ready!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tevin's Ready. Too Bad We Weren't., September 12, 2002

This review is from: I'm Ready (Audio CD)
Tevin Campbell successfully made the transition from cutesy teen singer to a young adult crooner on this, his second and best album. The most familiar songs on "I'm Ready" are the ones produced by Babyface: "Can We Talk," the title track, and "Always in My Heart," three smooth ballads that go down easy and nicely compliment Campbell's voice. But the track that gets points from me is the killer slow jam "Don't Say Goodbye Girl," which was produced by Narada Michael Walden, who is otherwise known for his work with Whitney Houston. This fine disc showed that Tevin is indeed ready for growth and maturity, but his popularity didn't last very long after its release. Still, in my school of music, "I'm Ready" gets a solid B.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tevin oh Tevin, February 25, 2006

Mr. Campbell turns out to be anther victim in the fast R&B roller coaster rides. A talent for sure-he had been compared to everyone from a young Michael Jackson to Prince. His first two CD were just the bomb. If memory serves me correct he was one of the youngest male singers to win a grammy. But faster than a princess could kiss a frog, it was all gone. In the wake of this promising career, however, is some good music. This sophomore CD is still a crowd favorite and I wish Mr. Campbell all the best of his Broadway debut of 'Hairspray'. Maybe soon there will be another noteworthy career comeback and it will have Tevin campbell's name written all over it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What A Pro, October 30, 2005
This review is from: I'm Ready (Audio CD)
What can be said about, I'm Ready, except that it is truly a magnificent piece of work. To date, it is clearly Tevin's finest release. Every song is a must have, and his voice, although, not yet mature, affects every part of your soul. It's unbelievable how someone, so young, is able to belt it out the way that he does. It's, as if, no song is too demanding for him to sing. From, I'm Ready to Tell Me What You Want Me To Do, Tevin Campbell has full control of the lyric, and, as a result, you feel every word. If you ask me, he's rather amazing. I've been a fan, since he first sang, on Back On The Block. Tomorrow, was and is one of his greatest songs, and quickly made me a believer. I've followed his career ever since, and, truth be told, have yet to be disappointed. If you don't already have, I'm Ready, and for that matter, anything else you can get by him, I'd advise you to make an investment. You can't go wrong with Tevin Campbell. And to think, I didn't even get paid to write this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem, August 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: I'm Ready (Audio CD)
This is one of the hottest solo efforts from a male from 1990-2000 as a 15 year old male I must say in the music buisness there have been many males who have had great songs and great vocals on one album but on this album, Tevin Campbell truly shows his vocal skills, he has great songs and a great voice.Unlike todays r&b singers Tevin is very rear most sing about money, cars, and hoes but Tevin sings about love and life.I think the best songs on this album are Always In My Heart, Halls Of Desire, Can We Talk, Dont Say Goodbye, I'm Ready, What Do I Say, and all the rest.Unlike other male singers who sing only ballads{Carl Thomas,J-Shin}etc Tevin is the olny one who sticks out even though Tevin may not be out doing well in the new millenium. 1991-1994 Tevin was on top Tevins latest self titled album which i wont comment on but if your looking for a true r&b album then get Tevins I'M READY

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm ready to hear some more!, January 23, 2000
This review is from: I'm Ready (Audio CD)
T.E.V.I.N has done it again with another great album! I loved this album for one good reason. I loved it because it didn't stick to one subject! Tevin talks about racism, love, sex, making a first move, and just plain dancing!I really loved songs like Brown Eyed Girl, Uncle Sam, Close To You, and Don't Say Goodbye! This guy can really take the soul of a song and pour out with his great voice! If you haven't heard it, please get it because your sure to play it over and over again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for a 15-year-old..., April 26, 2004
This review is from: I'm Ready (Audio CD)
When I first heard "Can We Talk", I thought it was melodically brilliant. Tevin Campbell on was on top from 1990-1994, and then the world apparently forgot about him. Putting his personal life aside... I was a fan of Tevin's from his debut on the "Grafitti Bridge" soundtrack (under the tutelage of Prince) with "Round and Round". And then there was "Tomorrow", which was produced by Quincy Jones. But Tevin's voice didn't crack until he was 17 in '93 when he came out with "I'm Ready". That's when he really started to shine. The first 3 singles ("I'm Ready", "Can We Talk", and "Always In My Heart") were written and produced by the very talented producer Babyface. Babyface is usually hit or miss nowadays, but he really shines on these 3 songs. Tevin does each one of them justice. I like the Prince-penned tunes (under the pseudonym "Paisley Park"), but 2 of them don't suit Tevin's voice, and those are "Paris 1798430" and "Shh". The former is a lil off-kilter and the latter is a little too grown-up. My favorite song is "Can We Talk" but my favorite non-single is the shortest song on the album- "Infant Child". I wish that was longer. All in all, this album was truly Tevin's biggest highlight of his unfortunately short career.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have, March 12, 2009
This review is from: I'm Ready (Audio CD)
If you're a fan of Tevin Campbell, or just RnB, this is a must have for any music collection. Takes you back to the great sounds of the nineties when songs had more to them that simply just grinding. The tracks varies from simply romance, "I'm Ready" to political with one of my favourite, "Uncle Sam". I'm simply just loving it and inspired to get all my favourite nineties tracks- 3T, Babyface! and of course MILLI VANILLI :-)
