5.0 out of 5 stars stripped down and beautiful
There is nothing that can be put into type to describe how truly amazing this CD is. Saves the Day is one of the best bands around, and this is a glimpse at a side of the band that isn't visible on their LP's. No Crunchy riffs, no tight, loud drums, and no thudding bass. Just Acoustics, and the stripped down vocals of Chris. This CD is beautiful. The guitars sound...

2.0 out of 5 stars Totally... OK!
"I'm Sorry I'm Leaving" accomplished what it was supposed to and didn't leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth. The intended idea was to show that the band wasn't as one-dimensional as many of the groups it was being bunched in with at the time. (Mainly, A New Found Glory) It also led marvelously from their indie pop rocker "Through Being Cool" into their new evolution in...

The guitars sound so...real, and are very well played. Chris delivers an amazing vocal performace, he really pours his heart into every word. His words hang heavy in the air, and even though people have criticized, his voice isn't all that whinny, and even if it is, it's amazing. This CD is less than 15 minutes, but it's some of the best material this band has ever recorded. Every person should own this. This is what you listen to while going to sleep, and this is what you listen to when you've had a bad day and you just want to sit and be there. This is amazingly real and stripped down, emotional music. I'm not ashamed to say that this CD made me cry the first time I heard it, and it still does (yes, I am a guy, and I'm proud to admit I cry). Beautiful in every sense of the word, a must own for all music fans. .... Pay whatever, but buy this CD. It's what music is all about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Saves The Day - I'm Sorry I'm Leaving., August 29, 2004
This review is from: I'm Sorry I'm Leaving (Audio CD)
Saves The Day, 'I'm Sorry I'm Leaving' acoustic EP is clearly a transition of the 'Through Being Cool/Can't Slow Down' era. Of course, at the time of the release, no one knew that. What makes this different and unique from the likes of Dashboard and such, is that Saves The Day hadn't exactly changed their sound. They still have those amazing 4/4 power chord riffs, awesome basslines, Chris's raw voice, and the same sort of lyrics as showcased on their previous records. As well as Chris singing his heart out as he does on every release.

1. 'I'm Sorry I'm Leaving' - The title track to the record is the opener to the EP. Chris sings his heart out. This one involves the full band with basses and drums. Personally, i think its decent, but i like it.
2. 'Hold' - This is a really great song. The chorus is catchy, and the lyrics are really deep, and beautiful. This one is just Chris and a guitar. One of the stand outs.
3. 'Jessie & My Whetstone' - Another stand out. Its a bit faster paced, but great vocals as usual, and a very catchy chorus.
4. 'Take Our Cars Now' - This is one of my favorites as well. Great song, and the chorus is really catchy as well. The lyrics are good and deep, and everytime i hear it, i imagine the scenario of the it.
5. 'I Melt With You' - My least favorite on the EP. Its a cover of a Modern English song. It features the whole band too, but its pretty boring.

Overall, even though its not long, its a very good acoustic EP. The songs are good as well. They are also avalible on the 'Up And Downs' record that just came out. This is definetly on most Saves The Day's fan collection already. I heard this is in it's final print, so get your copy before they are out of print. Its worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best cd i've heard in a while!, May 18, 2002
This review is from: I'm Sorry I'm Leaving (Audio CD)
HEY, what`s up?...first things first... I`m not going to sit here and bore you by writing a "thousand word" review, I`m just going to tell you all you need to know, ok? Allright... this Saves the day cd is great...everything's just perfect...heart-felt lyrics(sung by a guy named Chris who delivers great vocals), and awesome acoustic guitars. The music on the cd is some of the best you will ever hear. If you like Dashboard Confessionals , you'll probably like Saves the Day. Honestly, though, I can`t compare them to any other band, because their music is so original. Contrary to what my fellow Houstonian has to say right below me(InertiaKissed) this cd IS spectacular despite having only 5 songs. My personal favorite (I`m sure you`re wondering)...is "Hold". But anyways, i`m gonna stop writing so i can give *you* a chance to go take a listen. You won`t be dissapointed! Well, I`m out...peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apology accepted, January 25, 2004
This review is from: I'm Sorry I'm Leaving (Audio CD)
On I'm sorry i'm leaving, Saves the Day delivers the kind of whiny acoustic rock that puts Chris Carraba to shame.
The title track, perhaps Conley's greatest showcase of his mastery of nasal and vulnerable vocal performance, is the definitive emo waltz. The other gem of this collection is Jessie and my Whetstone, a reflection on the proverbial one that got away. Conley here yearns for love with the earnest urgency with which he drives in (the probably allegorical) "Take our cars now".

Excepting the mediocre, though tolerable cover of Modern English's "I'll Stop. . .", I'm Sorry I'm Leaving is a masterful short album, with an emotion to noise ratio that's through the roof.
With its sparse instrumentation and production coupled with deeply personal and often painful themes, this album emerges as a less caustic, more listenable "Plastic Ono Band" for the livejournal generation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dashboard? Nah stay with Saves, January 21, 2002

With the recent success of Dashboard Confessional and other acoustic based emo artists, this early Saves the Day acoustic EP is worth revisiting. As one of the leading bands in the genre I like to refer to as 'emo-pop', these boys from New Jersey combine raw emotion with legitimate musicianship. This musicianship is often overshadowed by the high decibels of the average Saves the Day album, but on this acoustic collection the intertwining guitar riffs and well constructed rhythm sections are easy to pick out and appreciate.

4.0 out of 5 stars catchy, July 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: I'm Sorry I'm Leaving (Audio CD)
This cd shows the softer side of Saves the Day. With poppy, poetic acoustic numbers that remind me of Dashboard Confessional and The New Amsterdams, "I'm sorry I'm leaving" takes the same formula of most STD material and turns it acoustic. This cd really turned out to be a true success. I recommend it to any punk/acoustic rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, May 17, 2006
This review is from: I'm Sorry I'm Leaving (Audio CD)
I was never a fan of acoustic material, from any band, I always thought it was boring etc. And this released proved me wrong on how boring acoustic may be. Chris Conley has such an amazing voice and talent with song writing (he wrote most of the guitar parts in all of their cds..even when he just sang) and this just proves the talent he has. each song is mainly up tempo and extremly catchy, its too bad "The way his collar falls" wasnt released on cd version (its vinyl only) because thats one of the best acoustic songs from Chris, and the rest of the band.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid EP, May 6, 2006
By
This review is from: I'm Sorry I'm Leaving (Audio CD)
The first STD album I heard was 'Through Being Cool', I am a native of New Jersey and grew up with Saves the Day and all of their albums. The album "Ups&Downs Early Recordings" that came out, is arguably the most desirable album... and it is a compilation. But truly this unappreciated EP is a necessity for any STD fan. To hear the acoustic songs on this album makes you appreciate the range of STD so much more, and i doubt Chris Conley sounds any better than on this gravelly recording. It is really a must get for a fan of emo and STD, i only don't give it a 5/5 because it is an EP and the cover song that concludes it sticks out as the only shaky song.

5.0 out of 5 stars gives me the chills, April 14, 2006
This review is from: I'm Sorry I'm Leaving (Audio CD)
I must agree with a review below....Chris puts Chris Carraba to shame with the true power with his emo songs on this cd. "I'm Sorry I'm Leaving" is a very powerful song with very deep lyrics. If you have a couple bucks lying around, I would recommend it to anybody.
