This recording combined Kitt's famous kittenish yet unscratchable persona paired with techno and dance music arrangements. It's an unbeatable combination. Imagine camp, glitz, fire, and ice against a pulsating beat.First, the credits. The listing here contains precious little information, so let's begin with the program and the production. Program: "Do Or Die" (Jack Robinson - James Bowden) "Primitive Man" (Eartha Kitt - Rod Gammons - Nigel Butler - Ray Hedges) "My Discarded Men" (Rod Gammons - Eartha Kitt - Steve Bronski) * "All By Myself"/"Beautiful At Forty" (Eric Carmen - Rachmaninoff - Eartha Kitt) ** "Cha Cha Heels" (Larry Steinbachek - Steve Bronski) * "Hit Them Where It Hurts" (Kevin Mason - Ray Hedges - Nigel Butler) "Urban Fantasy" (Rod Gammons - Brendan Beale) "I'm Still Here" (Stephen Sondheim) * with Bronski Beat ** with the Starcoast Orchestra conducted by Roger Webb The release of "I'm Still Here" coincided with Kitt's memoir (same title) published in 1989. It probably was much bigger in Europe than in the U.S. European popular markets traditionally show more respect for artists older than 22. This album is essential listening for Sondheim fans, Bronski Beat fans, and, of course, Eartha Kitt fans. |
