Well, here is a 70+ minute rehash of the material Seinfeld had been running his career on for about ten years. None is actually new, you probably heard a lot of it from his sitcom or in his book, but he delivers it freshly enough.

Being a huge lover of Jerry Seinfeld and his TV antics, I was anxious to get a hold of this recorded live stand-up performance. After listening to it just once, I realized how well worth the purchase it was.

True, if you watched the show regularly, you'll soon notice that many of the topics he covers in the CD are identical to the standup bits featured at the beginning of various "Seinfeld" episodes. However, that doesn't make this performance any less funny. In this, you'll hear the "nothing-centered" witticisms of everyday life delivered in a way only Jerry could do well.

So, if you're sitting and working or doing absolutely nothing, the radio is blaring the usual top 40 standards, and you have a yen to listen to something different, let Jerry personally introduce you to his first love...stand up comedy. You won't regret it.

Jerry Seinfeld's "I'm Telling You for the Last Time" is typical Seinfeld stuff--that is to say, of course, EXCELLENT SEINFELD STUFF. He hits topics like cab drivers, sky diving ("You get up that high, I think that helmet is wearing YOU for protection"), drugstores, bathrooms, and so on. It's astonishing to us non-comedians that these seemingly hum-drum topics can be mined for such riches, but Seinfeld does the impossible and makes them each a comic gem that will have you red-faced and absolutely helpless with laughter.

His take on Halloween may be one of the funniest things I've ever heard (On hearing about Halloween for the first time as a kid, Seinfeld says his reaction was, "You mean everyone we KNOW is just GIVING AWAY CANDY? What's WRONG with them?"). He segues from this into the meanings of "up" and "down" for kids and adults: "When you're little, life is up. Wait up, hold up, shut up! Mom, I'll clean up! Lemme stay up! Parents, of course, are just the opposite. Just calm down! Slow down! Come down here, sit down, put that down! Keep it down in there!"

This album deserves your undivided attention--to really enjoy it, my husband and I recently listened to it on a long drive when we were going on vacation and we both were nearly in tears from laughing so hard. Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe some people don't like this stuff!, November 20, 2006

This review is from: I'm Telling You for the Last Time (Audio CD)
Some of the past reveiwers complained about a few things about this album, usually one of the following:

1. The material isn't new.

2. The material is unoriginal.

3. The material isn't "edgy" enough.

So, here are my rebuttals to these complaints, in hopes of straigtening a few things out (sarcasm intended, since I'm sure they really don't care):

1. Of course it isn't new material, its called "I'm telling you for the LAST time." Its really more of a greatest hits performance since Jerry Seinfeld never released an album. I agree it would have been cool to have some of his earlier performances on an album, but we don't have the luxury, and I don't know about you, but I'd perfer to have my Seinfeld stand up actually documented on a disc as opposed to the previous option, one minute chunks before and after an episode of his sitcom.

2. There was a time when this actually was quite original. You see, Jerry Seinfeld got incredibly famous, and so many up and coming comedians started ripping him off that his observational comedic stylings became very common (a point beautifully illustrated in the SNL game show parody "Stand Up and Win" hosted by Jerry Seinfeld himself). If the material and style sounds unoriginal, keep in mind, Seinfeld pretty much did it first.

3. Why should comedy have to be "edgy" to be good? Jerry Seinfeld was funny without being dirty or obscene (the worst you hear in this CD is a handfull of "G-d D-mns"). I personally think that the R rated material is a crutch, if you can't be funny without being dirty, then you're not really that good in the first place.

So there you have it, my takes on the complaints against Seinfelds only album. It's some good stuff really, there's a reason why people ripped off his act, and that reason is because he was a really funny, really sucessful comedian.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seinfeld at close to his best.., November 22, 2003

Jerry Seinfeld is almost at his best during this recording, though at times, it sounds as though someone is walking in front of the audience with an 'applause' sign, as the audience laugh very frequently at things he says that are simply not funny. This aside, the recording is very fun to listen to once or twice and everyone will have their favourite bits.. including the 'hello newman' at the end during the question and answer segment. Some of the material does sound a little overworked, especially to people who watched the show regularly (as I did). Never-the-less, this is a good recording of some of Seinfeld's funniest material

If you are looking for brand-new material that will simply amaze you, go to the next review. (Try Brian Regan, he is incredible.)

If you want a recording of wonderful comedy you've heard before, try this CD. I belong to the second group. I've heard Seinfeld's bits before. I watched his show every week. Most of this material is not new. And yet... I don't use the word "classic" too often, but this CD sums up Jerry's best stuff. You can tell you're in for a funny bit when the audience laughs at the setup lines ("Why is McDonald's still couting?").

Not much question here. If you like the show and the old standup, this one is worth owning. Otherwise buy Brian Regan's CD and see him live next time through for a new experience!

If you like this type of humor, you might want to check out one of the comedians that originated this stuff: George Carlin. I swear, some of Seinfeld's bits sound lifted off of 1970's/early 80's Carlin albums (when the guy was more laid back and observational). Listen to "Class Clown", "On The Road" or "Place for my Stuff".

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely hilarious!!, October 13, 2000
This review is from: I'm Telling You for the Last Time (Audio CD)
This cd is one of the best in comedy! It's a perfect way to make any trip in the car more enjoyable!! Very few comedians can come across with Jerry's level of class and yet have you rolling with laughter. I highly recommend it to anyone who has been a fan of "Seinfeld" or just loves the comedy of everyday life.

I got this CD for my 17th birthday, which was May 23. I have listened to it perhaps 7 times, and I still burst out laughing. All of his observations are so amusing and accurate. It's long and will help you laugh for hours. Even if you didn't like "Seinfeld," you'll love this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brightens my day!, October 25, 2010

I owned this CD for seemingly forever. Some topics on this track made me laugh so hard that it got me through some tough days. Typical Jerry Seinfeld: take everyday trivial things we don't focus and exploit it to the max!

Even after all these years I still can hear his delivery: "Ever tried to have milk the day after the expiration date? Spoon is trembling... you smelled milk, I smelled milk, what is milk suppose to smell like?"

Classic!

This CD was nothing less than a tremendous joy! Jerry Seinfeld is one of the best comedians of our time, and this CD is an outstanding example of his work. There are two things that make Seinfeld stand out as a comedian. First, he doesn't have to resort to inappropriate topics and foul language to be funny. This CD can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Second, his material is based on things that normal people would experience, such as taking a trip on an airplane or getting examined by a doctor. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who wants to be entertained.
