5.0 out of 5 stars Gary can still sing a Honky Tonk Song!!!!!!!!!!!, November 3, 2001

If you like Gary Stewart and the Honky Tonk sound you need this album. I think it is some of his better work. I bought it and now most of my friends and family have done the same. If you like Gary, Waylon or any of the Honky Tonk music - this is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of his greatest!, June 14, 2001

To those who say Gary has never again equalled the music he made in the mid-1970's, I disagree! This CD is filled with great music from beginning to end. "Come On In" is a rowdy invitation -- "come on in, nobody here but me and the blues" -- that is irresistable. The title cut claims "I'm a Texan... and I'm wilder than the west Texas wind" and you believe it. "Stompin' Ground" is a about a guy on the strut like in the old days, "I had a reputation for raisin' the roof" the singer claims. Sounds autobiographical even though Gary didn't write it. "Hand Me Another" is a GREAT drinking song. "Hand me another and I'll swallow that mother. Then I'll be as high as the sun ever rose..." "Draggin' Leather" is a boot-scooting song that evokes Rockabilly with lyrics like "Come on down to the alley, but don't tell Sally...Honey, jump in your Lincoln and let's do some drinking." "It's True" is a heartbreaking blues number that Gary co-wrote. "It's true -- everything I've been hearin' about you...We went from us to me and you." "Honky Tonk Hardwood Floor" is about as forgettable as most country songs you hear these days. But at least it's Gary singing it! "Dark End of the Street" is a classic that I have yet to hear a bad cut on. This version features Gary at his best with an especially great choice of female partner to trade lyrics with. Tracy Nelson has a similar vocal style and they sound great together. This one alone is worth the price of the CD. "Make It A Double" is a fun Tex-Mex number. "One Night" is the classic R&B song that Elvis also did a great job on during his TV special in the late 1960's. But even the King can't rob Gary of the right to sing this one and put his brand on a great song! "Those Memories" is the same bluegrass number that Dolly Parton took lead vocal on when the original Trio CD came out. Her version might be a bit better, but then her voice is especially perfect for bluegrass. Gary has never sounded better. He IS from the Bluegrass state of Kentucky, you know. "Two More Fools" is a fine cheating song. "If ever two fools were born to be lovers, we two are surely a match made above. Both of us breaking our vows to another..." Buy this one before it goes out of stock. Don't miss your chance!

5.0 out of 5 stars I sure miss Gary!, October 25, 1998

Gary Stewart is the epitomy of honky-tonk...his music is his and no one but Gary can do justice to it. We used to see him in Texas all the time but since we've been transplanted to Iowa, his albums have to take the place of the real thing. This album sounds like vintage Gary...brings back memories of his duos with Dean Dillon. Great stuff!
