Hallinan's book does a wonderful job of introducing young children to the idea of being thankful for everything that is beautiful in our lives...not just material belongings. The colorful illustrations and simple text are always interesting to kindergarten students. The book can serve as an introduction to a Thanksgiving unit, a springboard to classroom discussions, and other classroom activities. I have used Hallinan's book as inspiration for my kindergarteners to help create their own class book "We Are Thankful." The students' book then goes into the classroom library for independent reading. You'll enjoy this one.

Being the overly happy and optomistic 18 year old that I am today, I found my copy of this book in a bag of donations to be sent to the needy. Yet, I felt I need this book more than you know. This simple book gives a pleasent motivation to any youngster. It has a simple ryhme structure, which not only makes the book easier to read, but at the same time, the more complex sentences will challenge your young child's reading skills. The pictures are vibrant and adorable, with plenty of postive oranges, yellows, and reds shining through each page. The book does have a somewhat Christian undertone, although never actually mentioning God in the text - it only reads "Each second brings comfort and joy from above." A simple book at a simple price... and a good one to share with your children, in a time where the world may not be so thankful.

This book encourages positive feelings. It reinforces just how thankful we are to enjoy each day, and not take it for granted. It teaches awareness of our surroundings.

I wrote a special note inside my childs book, and signed it. This book is a real keepsake.

This book is wonderful. I give it as a baby gift any chance I get. It's one of those books that every child should have.

My 4 year old son and I read this book 5 out of the seven night a week. He pretends the boy is him and he enjoys the different things to be thankful for. This book is a great way to show your children how beautiful and joyful our world is. We read this book before we say our prayers. My son now starts his prayers off by "I'm thankful for...."

I really do love this book - I think the message is great and not at all religious, which I also like. The illustrations are fun and bright and happy, and the poem it illustrates is sweet. I personally really love this book - it makes me happy just to read it.

My 5-year-old, however, isn't as keen on it as I am. He sits through it, but he doesn't ever request it - I am always the initiator of the reading of this book. I don't know if he finds it preachy, since that word isn't in in his vocabulary yet - it might be more something like he feels there is an agenda to it. He seems to sense when I am wanting him to read something rather than when he is just choosing it. So maybe it is my wanting him to like it that sort of puts him off of it, I'm not sure.

Is this review even helpful? I don't know, this is just our experience I suppose. So MY review is glowing, while his is just "eh".

This book is wonderful. My daughter and I read it every night at bedtime, and I never get tired of it. Now, I am on a mission to collect ALL of PK Hallinan's books. I think they all have a great message, they are well written, have beautiful pictures and are just all around the best kids' books I have encountered. Definitely a must have for all toddler moms-- and moms with young kids!

This is one of my favorite books to read to my son (almost 3 yrs. old). I love how the author reminds us to be thankful for the things that are easy to overlook, like the power of the mind or the look of an autumn day. It's helped everyone in our house to stop and be thankful for even the little things in our lives.

This book is a perfect way to teach children how to be thankful for all the wonderful things God has given us. It shows that we should be thankful for non-material things. It is a precious book for parent and child to read together. It reminded me of a few things I needed to be thankful for!

I found this book at Marshalls, who knew that this author has other wonderful books. I have been reading it to my infant every chance I get - it really reinforces a lot of healthy attitudes and the basic tenets that I want to instill in him. It highlights a personal relationship that you can have with your God.
