Boogie Woogie Fun,
By "jbesanko" (Crofton, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I'm Wise (Audio CD)
Carl Sonny Leyland is a boogie-woogie piano player in the Jerry Lee Lewis mold with a sly sense of humor and a way with a song...The best word to describe this album is "fun"--with tracks titled "Wine Women & Song," "The Honky Tonk Wine," "Beer & Boogie" and "Big Foot Baby" how could it be anything else? Most of the tunes are up-tempo; only his cover of Roosevelt Sykes' "Sunny Road" slows the pace appreciably. Leyland's own "I Believed..." may be the best song on the disc, but it's got plenty of competition; it's just a strong collection of tunes from start to finish. Leyland has played with Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys and recorded with Deke Dickerson, so you know he's hanging around with good company. Highly recommended.
