I have appreciated this woman's voice for more than the thirty years she has been recording. It is regrettable that she hasn't received the attention she deserves for her body of work, but that is just the luck of being an artist who chooses the best work for herself truly. She is ecclectic in her choices, ranging from New Orleans, LA to Nashville/Memphis, TN to New York City, NY. The album 'Maria Muldaur's 'Midnight At The Oasis' was my introduction to her and was a pop hit in the mid-70s and it also had on it Dolly Parton's 'My Tennesee Mountain Home'. Two songs of such distinct style differences that gave my fifteen year old mind wonderful posibilities. On this retrospective, there are the contributions of Doctor John, the Neville Brothers, Peggy Lee, Brother Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, JJ Cale, Ry Cooper, Bonnie Riatt, Mavis Staples, The Chambers Brothers, Benny Carter, and too many more. Because of Ms Mudaur, I have since listened to and become a fan of many almost forgotten greats like Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Fats Waller, Bessie Smith, and Hoagy Carmichael. I have seen people try to catagorize the music of this woman, but she is more than the Blues, or Gospel, or Pop, or whatever you try to file her under - other than Favorite.

This is really an amazing album that has quite a variety of music (the spectrum goes from gospel to hokum (or vice versa if you prefer)). She runs the gamut of jazz, blues, gospel, field hollers, hokum, and pop. Only one surprise. I'm amazed that she didn't pick "Richland Woman Blues" as one of her best. She single handedly turned this Mississippi John Hurt song into a masterpiece. I'm not questioning her choices (I'm just glad the artist is the producer for a change), and there's no way of adding it in (it's a 79+ minute disc). Maria and her friends (Dr. John, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Rait, Mavis Staples, Aaron Nevil, The Chambers Brothers, Charles Brown, Hoagy Carmichael, and a lot more) make one full platter of entertainment.

This compilation is even better than I thought it would be when I bought it. I was originally looking for a few of her "hits" but then I thought I would give this CD a try to learn more about her music... and I'm glad I did. Other than two songs at the beginning which don't do much for me (My Tennessee Mountain Home and The Work Song) this collection is a solid "10". I am really amazed at how Maria's style can be sexy and spiritual at the same time. A great addition to any music collection.

This collection of Muldar's best features, of course, 'Midnight at the Oasis', a fabulous tune. But 'Midnight' is merely one of a number of great songs done up in Muldaur's unique style. It's a great cd.

I was smitten by "Midnight at the Oasis" in the early seventies. Marie's voice is truly one of the sexiest women's singing voices of all time. In 2004...At the "Blue Guitar" in Palm Springs...in person and in great voice...She rocked... After the gig, Maria signed my "I'm A Woman" CD. A truly memorable night. All are great, but "Cajun Moon" brings back memories that have a deep and haunting effect on me... that makes for many repeated listenings.

Well produced and a good overview of her career..You get rock, folk and jazz for the most part of her career. Good album.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. He is very pleased with the CD, good sound and good content. Most if not all of Maria's most famous songs are on the CD. The only criticism would be that the CD jewel case was quite cheap, and it was especially difficult to remove the CD. He just put the CD in one of my clear jewel cases and works fine now.

I love this record, it is going to be my summer CD. This CD, features some of the most fabulous tunes of her golden 30-year career. I first heard about this record on the shout factory website at www.shoutfactory.com and after getting it today, I've been playing it all day long. Its a great mix of classic blues and R&B. Check it out and chill out to it!

Maria Muldar began with Jim Kweskin's Jug Band. She sang that in the Jug Band. She improved on her own, she had attitude. I appreciate that. Carolyn

because this was a gift I don't know how good the cd was but it was delivered in good shape and on time
