5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
I'm not one who usually reads this type of novel, but I heard from a friend I should give it a try...I was not disappointed to say the least. Ms. Szewczyk is funny, witty, and a great story teller. I really got into all the interesting characters in the book. I felt like I knew the three main charaters, Kas, Max, and especially Libby from real life. Ms. Szewczyk...

3.0 out of 5 stars On the Rebound, August 3, 2008
This review is from: I'm with Stupid (Paperback)
Kas is a young woman in NY who is faced with the reality that "not all guys are who you think they are - or wish they were". It goes from worse - to bad... from a narcissistic user to an unconscious idiot savant user. On the rebound Kas wakes up with a "12" in South Africa, until she actually hears what is coming out of his mouth in New York (or e-mails), to discover he's really only a"3" - reality, he is a savory mindless piece of eye candy. She has two lovely friends on her journey - Max a `have to have' friend (especially with any revenge anyone would like to sic on an X) and his less motivated sexy cousin, Libby. Kas not only learns that not only are the men she dates not who she thought they were, but neither are her parents or brother. It's a right of passage of a young woman meeting sheer reality in humor, on the rebound.

The book did too many side-track journeys. Characters are very interesting and entertaining. The book probably would appeal to more 20 - 30' year olds. The book I would recommend to a single woman (or man)- especially in the dating jungle finding her/his footing (I ordered it for a younger relative). I did have a few good giggles. The lower rating is probably my 40-ish age perspective.

Ms. Szewczyk also gives you some great insight into the strange twists relationships can take, which are many in the story. I also appreciate her pride in her ethnicity! I enjoyed the times Kas is at her parents Polish deli, and the different interactions with her mother, father, and brother. Coming from an italian family, this is all so familiar. I feared for a very expected and tidy wind up to all the different plots going on, this did not happen and I thought the ending was perfect! I hope Ms. Szewczyk continues to write novels because I really enjoyed her first!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable at times, January 11, 2009
This review is from: I'm with Stupid (Paperback)
The book was interesting in the beginning, when they first made the trip to South Africa. Once they got to New York again, it became a little predicable. I have seen this storyline in tv shows, and to me it is an unrealistic story. I can't see it ever happening to someone. This book had it's humorous moments, but it just didn't have enough story or plot for me. It had it serious moments too. In fact, one moment about Kas and her brother Henryk had me tearing up. I think had the book mixed the serious and funny better, instead of trying to be so humorous all the time, it would have balanced out better. As it was, the book tried so hard to stay funny all the time that it became boring. It has moments similar to Sex and the City, which is a show I have never been a fan of. So if you like Sex and the City, you will probably like this book. Overall, I thought it was funny at times but boring at others.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful!, November 13, 2008
This review is from: I'm with Stupid (Paperback)
Poorly written with unlikeable characters. I just had no interest in spending time with these awful people. I did finish the book, but I felt it was a very poor use of my time. The premise is good, but it could have been infinitely better written. The book's author is also the editor of Kirkus Reviews, which, not surprisingly, gives the book a great review on Amazon. Can you say "nepotism?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you for this ANTI-ROMANCE novel!!!!!!!, August 5, 2008
By
This review is from: I'm with Stupid (Paperback)
Seriously, this book is extremely funny! I completely appreciated the very refreshing twists that the story took! I loved how there were no stereotypical characters in the story and the way the story kept moving. Nothing like I had expected! Thank you Ms. Szewczyk for avoiding cliche and sap! The sense of humor on her is truly amazing! Max rocked! The friendship between the three of them is wonderful! LOVED IT!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite good, July 22, 2008
This review is from: I'm with Stupid (Paperback)
Just finished this book after randomly picking it up at a bookstore. I have to say that the characters were hilarious and really interesting and the story did have me hooked. It had me laughing out loud at various points.

Only thing I will say against the book though, is that it trails off, quite often, into some long passages about things that are not very interesting and really quite unnecessary to the story.

Good book for a summer beach/ train to work read though- 4 stars so definitely worth picking up a copy!

And I guess a plus is you get to learn what to buy from a Polish deli.... ?

4.0 out of 5 stars ATTACK OF THE ONE NIGHT STAND, July 8, 2008

This review is from: I'm with Stupid (Paperback)
This book is truly funny. Our heroine, dumped, goes on a trip to So Africa with her very hilarious friends and meets a drop dead gorgeous ranger who she spends a night with...okay it's a fish out of water story when the ranger gets to NY and drives everyone batty when he's out of his element. And some of the plot's a little too neatly tied up. But the way the story's told and the author's humor makes it a terific read. It's not big on romance if that's what you're looking for but I laughed out loud while I read it and felt the characters were very memorable. This author is now on my fav list!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Read, January 28, 2009
This review is from: I'm with Stupid (Paperback)
The name of the book should have simply been named "Stupid." I was about 100 pages in and still did not have any ties to the characters. One of the main characters "Max" tries way too hard to be funny, when main female lead, Kas, comes off as cheesy and out of sync. I agree with the above review that the author definitely knew these characters in real life however they did not amuse me in the least bit in this novel.
I love these kind of books especially while traveling but this book made me feel "Stupid" for reading it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I really am :), January 26, 2009
This review is from: I'm with Stupid (Paperback)
I picked this up and it was a very fluent, funny read. Totally believable too!!
Her heart is trashed by this jerk and even though she knows what he is, she still has to remind herself not to call him time and time again. Then we get introduced to her 2 best friends Libby and Max and these characters are so alive and loco:)

Max looks out for both girls and decide to get revenge on the jerk above for Kas and the stuff he pulls is just plain evil. This tale simply runs through a fantasy that all of us have had a one time. {well, maybe not - if you are the 'Gorgeous' one that folks are ogling;)]. But, its like kas didn't pray for the rest of the stuff to be added to this ethereal man and voila, there is plenty to work with in the way of ... oh my God

The story runs from the beginning to the end and that end, Kas has learn t quite a lot and all's well.
