Stop with the Buckley.,

It boggles my mind when I see review's that say this guy sound's like Jeff Buckley I'm a huge fan of Imaad and a so/so fan of Jeff, just because Wasif has an emotive voice does not mean you should catergorize it as Buckley like as for people who do sound similiar try Thom Yorke or Matt Bellamy(of Muse)pre Black Holes. Also try listening to a wider spectrum of music as well maybe that will help you realize who sound's like who and who doesn't.

This elloquent work of subtlety belongs in the lineage with Jeff Buckley's 'Grace' and Sigur Ros's () album.
Imaad's quiet, contemplative voice remains clear and cool over the stark string arrangements. The lack of percussion on most of this album leaves a lot of room for ambience as well. The use of droning guitars, harmonium, and hints of middle-eastern modes moves the songs toward a crescendo, giving the songs a breathing quality not usually found in indie rock records. The lyrics are at times vague, and envoke a darkness that is not easy to pinpoint, like Elliott Smith. All of these elements contribute to the record's strongest quality; atmosphere. BUY THIS CD if you like to put on records and zone out for an hour. Imaad also has a myspace if you'd like to check out one of his songs.

I'd never heard of Imaad Wasif until reading a very nice two page article about him in the May/June, 2006 issue of No Depression. The article sparked my interest, so I went to Amazon to preview his music. I was really taken with Imaad's voice and lyrics. The CD was here in a couple of days and I owe No Depression a big Thank You for directing me to this music. It would be a true crime if this gem were not given proper backing and promotion because it should have the chance to be HEARD. When browsing Imaad's music on Amazon, I also checked out his band, Alaska (and was equally impressed). I ordered their two CDs at the same time as the solo recording. As with Imaad, I'd not heard of this group, Alaska, before...(hard to believe)...a GREAT band! So if you like Imaad's CD, be sure to check out Alaska too.

I first heard Imaad Wasif last night when he opened for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in Vancouver. For the first artist in a line up of three, Imaad blew me away. Maybe it is just my current phase of lounging to Thievery Corporation and Fiona Apple, but the soft, sometimes ethnic/emo guitar coupled with soothing and passionate vocals made me fall instantly in love! The songs are reminiscent of some far away middle eastern love making session while maintaining a slight edge of structure and main streamedness as not to be too abstract or confusing. I loved his soul and the sound of his voice. This cd will be perfect for smoking on the beach this summer.
