Book Description

Image Acquisition and Processing With LabVIEWä combines the general theory of image acquisition and processing, the underpinnings of LabVIEW and the NI Vision toolkit, examples of their applications, and real-world case studies in a clear, systematic, and richly illustrated presentation. Designed for LabVIEW programmers, it fills a significant gap in the technical literature by providing a general training manual for those new to National Instruments (NI) Vision application development and a reference for more experienced vision programmers.

A CD-ROM packaged with the book contains libraries of the example images and code referenced in the text, additional technical white papers, a demonstration version of LabVIEW 6.0, and an NI IMAQ demonstration that guides you through its features.

System Requirements: Using the code provided on the CD-ROM requires LabVIEW 6.1 or higher and LabVIEW Vision Toolkit 6.1 or higher. Some of the examples also require IMAQ Vision Builder 6.1 or higher, the IMAQ OCR toolkit, and IMAQ 1394 drivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended for learning Image Acquisition and Processing with LabVIEW, February 22, 2011
This review is from: Image Acquisition and Processing with LabVIEW (Image Processing Series) (Hardcover)
I hesitated to buy this book. Not because it was "Not recommended for learning LabVIEW". It is strange that anyone would buy this book to learn the the language. The title clearly describes the content. I could not say it better than Jeffry Travis, the author of LabVIEW For Everyone, "if you want to learn about image acquisition and processing, and you work with LabVIEW, you will definitely want this missing manual on your bookshelf"

The reason I hesitated to buy this book was the price and the age. But if you know LabVIEW and want to apply it to image acquisition and processing it is well worth the investment. Books such as this are timeless. I have books on mathematics, process control, signal processing, physics and electronics theory that are thirty years old. They are just as valuable, useful and relevant today as they were when they were new. LabVIEW may evolve but image processing theory is still going to be image processing theory.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not recommended for learning labview, June 29, 2006

This review is from: Image Acquisition and Processing with LabVIEW (Image Processing Series) (Hardcover)
I bought this book when I started doing image processing in LabVIEW and found it completely useless. The information was all either obvious (things I could figure out by playing around with LabView myself) or very theoretical and above my head. The author spent a lot of time explaining things you can do with LabVIEW, but almost all of them were obvious if you read the descriptions of the available sub-VIs. I'm not sure what audience the author intended this book for... it seemed like it didn't have enough detail for someone who has experience with LabVIEW, but didn't explain things clearly for someone (like me) who is just learning. I learned a lot more from "LabVIEW for Everyone" by Jeffrey Travis even though it didn't cover image analysis. Don't waste your money on this book.
