5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of research and good material, December 16, 2009

The mere size and weight of this book can be intimitading, but should not be. It is not intended to be read cover to cover in a short period of time. Rather, it is a thoroughly researched collection of the image of the Jew in American literature, beginning with the early republic and extending throughout history to relatively recent times.

This is a topic that may not be widely known and contains many surprises such as the fact that Mark Twain wrote about Jews and Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote on the famous Christian legend of "The Wandering Jew."

Filled with factual material and interesting anecdotes, the author has compiled a wonderful resource book. The writing is rather sophisticated, although anyone seeking information on the topic will find this book to be a wonderful source.
