I enjoyed it. It's a good intro for someone wanting to engage the arts and their faith simultaneously. It seems to be written largely for someone without an trained artistic, or theological background (the "lay reader"). I would definitely recommend it to that audience.

As an artist who strives for spirituality in my work I was searching for a dissertation or review of works and what others found spiritual about them.
However in Image and Spirit Karen laid out a critique process for reviewing any work of art in the context of spirituality. This book was not what I expected yet it provided me with so much more. It is well written, well organized and provides additional resources. After reading this book, I'll take Karen recommendations and add those suggestions to my wish list. Although one can easily deduce that Karen is a Christian, I appreciated her writing style that did not seem to limit the concept of spirituality to only a Christian prism. She wrote wisely and conveyed easily. I completely enjoyed this book.
