4.0 out of 5 stars good and original
I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. Interesting and compelling plot, but i think you'll have to be regular reader of science fiction books or movies to really appreciate it. Bernard should be around for a long time, and I hope he builds a fan base. I'm still deciding, but I have told African American friends to get this book because too many black writers are...

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Verbose
I am an avid reader of fiction and was thrilled when I discovered another African American author of science fiction. I have attempted to read both of Mr. Bernard's novels and I was unable to finish them. And I pride myself on completing books even when I don't like them. I like the concept of the book, but I quickly realized that the writing was too verbose. It...

I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. Interesting and compelling plot, but i think you'll have to be regular reader of science fiction books or movies to really appreciate it. Bernard should be around for a long time, and I hope he builds a fan base. I'm still deciding, but I have told African American friends to get this book because too many black writers are writing about relationships or drug dealers. I would out Bernard up there as Octavia Butler's heir.

5.0 out of 5 stars The future in the hands of a woman, January 11, 2005

D. V. Bernard has written a wonderful science fiction piece about the things we hold dear and how they can cause our destruction if we don't learn to appreciate and protect them. Our genetic makeup is our signature in this world. In the hands of a madman, a race could be extinguished or our abilities to procreate could be hampered. Our love for computers and electronic devices could be used as another mechanisim to destroy us by anyone with an evil plan and the resources to do so.

Mr. Bernard has boldly stepped into an arena few African-Americans have ventured. This powerfully written novel was truly an eye-opening experience. The pace and the action kept me enthralled as I tried to figure out the plot. When I thought I had it figured out, it took another turn that introduced many other possibilities. The characters were varied and well developed. They each brought a significant addition to the story. I often found myself wondering how he kept up with each character, each plot and all the intricate details until the end. For all of you science fiction lovers, here is an author you must add to your TBR list. (RAW Rating: 4.5)

5.0 out of 5 stars Life altering experience!!!, October 28, 2004
This review is from: God in the Image of Woman (Paperback)
I have read hundreds of books in my lifetime and this is the first time that I have had to put down a book and think. The idealogies presented in the book are truly astounding and powerful. I can't imagine anyone reading this book and not being somewhat changed. Powerful characters and story line make this a perfect gift for anyone that is socially aware and conscious. This reflects the direction our world is going. I suggest you buy this book for yourself and your friends. You will not be disappointed! I can't wait to read Bernard's other novel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Wonderful book, October 21, 2004
This review is from: God in the Image of Woman (Paperback)
I've never been a fan of Science Fiction, but this book has changed that forever. I found myself totally captivated by the characters in this book. Everytime I thought I had figured out the plot it changes leaving me stunned. I see so much realism in this book. This book should be a wake up call to humans that a lot of the things we embrace as technology could back fire us leaving the world in total destruction. This young man should be around for a long time because he has stepped away from the norm and reached back into writings of African American and non-African American writers and created what could be a true legacy for him. EVERYONE READ THIS BOOK, its right up there with a Steven Spielsburg movie......

I have attempted to read both of Mr. Bernard's novels and I was unable to finish them. And I pride myself on completing books even when I don't like them. I like the concept of the book, but I quickly realized that the writing was too verbose. It doesn't take three pages (small print, no less) to say that someone is crazy! I even tried skimming the long descriptions. But I found that I did not like or care what happened to the characters. I also could not get a clear understanding of who believed what or what he was trying to lead up to.
