1.0 out of 5 stars Same as "Unseen Archives", November 13, 2007
This review is from: Images of the Beatles (Hardcover)
I loved Tim Hill's first version of this book, "The Beatles: Unseen Archives", a ton of rare Beatles photos from the archives of the "Daily Mail". Sometime later, I saw another big glossy book of photos called "John Lennon: Unseen Archives" coauthored by Marie Clayton (Hill's coauthor for "Beatles: Unseen Archives"). I got all excited and bought it, but when I got it home, I saw that it was all the same photos as the first book. Later still, I got all excited about "Images of the Beatles" by Tim Hill, bought it, and found that it was yet a third collection of these exact same photos. I'd blame my stupid self if these were just reissues of the same book with different covers, but the pictures are all shuffled around and the captions are different. The whole idea is to rip me off again and again (works!). Now I see Tim Hill has another book coming out called "JPG&R: Definitive Illustrated Chronicle..." and another called "The Beatles". Well you know those "Daily Mail" guys, they'll stop at nothing to be a paperback writer. But this time has got to be different -- couldn't possibly be the same photos. I'm going off now to pre-order these new books...

3.0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Beatles Photo Book!, February 22, 2008
This review is from: Images of the Beatles (Hardcover)
John, Paul, George and Ringo will probably interest music fans till our sun goes nova. This 2007 book from Parragon Publishing showcases Beatle photographs from the archives of the English DAILY MAIL newspaper. Depending on how long you've been a Fab Four fan, IMAGES OF THE BEATLES will either be a must-have delight or a "Not another Beatles photo book?!?" reject.

IMAGES' 256 pages document JPG&R from roughly 1962 to 2001. Many of the black and white photos, which come with generally accurate captions, are full page. Truth be told, it's nice to page through and view all those old, lovely photos of the lads. What happy, exciting times they created and how sad John and George are gone. Trouble is those photos have been seen many times already and, for me, it is a case of "been there, done that."

So folks, it's your call on this one. IMAGES sells for $20.00. If you haven't seen these shots before, pony up the twenty and you won't be disappointed. Otherwise this is an optional purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Priceless Photos of a Timeless Band, July 22, 2007
By
This review is from: Images of the Beatles (Hardcover)
The book is of ample size and delivers the goods--hundreds of beautiful, all black-and-white photos of the Beatles (together and solo, with or without friends and family). A lot of these impress me in that I actually HAVE NOT seen them before. Although I found a number of mistakes in the little captions beside the pictures (for example, since when is "She Said She Said" on Sgt. Pepper?), this is completely trivial since what the book really offers are glossy, high-quality images of the Fab Four we all know and love. It is a great photo album, and worth it every step of the way for all Beatles collections. Recommended.

Also, being that there is no cover image on Amazon yet, I would just like to add that that should not shy you away from this purchase. The cover has John, Paul, George, and Ringo all sitting alongside each other with shining gold print displaying the title, "Images of the Beatles." Very handsome outside sleeve; perfect for coffee table display.
