5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and Humane, December 21, 2010
This review is from: Images in Spite of All: Four Photographs from Auschwitz (Hardcover)
What theory should like in action: ethical, imaginative, sincere. The use of Medusa in the book's last few pages to explain the necessary mediation of looking at the Shoah is the coup de grace of a consistently developed repudiation directed towards detractors of images in spite of all. This is a necessity for anyone interested in visual culture or holocaust studies. Most importantly, Huberman never loses sight of the awesome desire for the photographer and his collaborators to make these images in unthinkable circumstances. Remarkably, this book's intellectual footwork honors the heroism of those men.
