Look out!,
By wsouth@home.dmv.com (Smyrna, Delaware, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Imaginate (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because it was midnight, I was at Walmart out of boredom, and I kept playing "Get Set" on the jukebox all night. I wasn't expecting much but let me tell you, it seems that the best things come when you're not expecting it. I like this CD because it is a sound I have not heard for a long time. Many of the songs have an upbeat rock edge with a tad bit of clean acoustic accompaniment. Also, unlike several bands in this genre, these guys actually HARMONIZE when they sing. It's been done before, yeah, but it just sounds really good here! Some of the lyrics (not all of them) are pretty thoughtful too. It makes you cheer up a bit after getting dumped. My favorite cuts are "Get Set," "Everywhere You Go," "72 Hour Daze," and "Nothing in the World." Better get your copy before all your friends have it. Once "Everywhere You Go" hits the airwaves, these guys are gonna go mainstream but now, at least you can claim that you were listening to them long before they were "cool." A must buy! Also, please let me know if you have found any guitar tablature for these guys.

Nothing In This World compares to Taxiride,
By "kcstrawn" (Long Valley, New Jersey) - See all my reviews

It was certainly well worth the wait to be able to purchase this import. With its cheerful melodies and well writen lyrics its difficult not to sing along. The remix of "Everywhere You Go", which is not included on the U.S. release, is delightful with its gradual introduction and enhanced instruments. The bonus track of "Helplessly Hoping" is a song where the focus is on the harmony of the vocals which is a surpising change from the rest of the album. The multimedia music videos are a bonus for the U.S. fans who have been anxiously waiting to see them on T.V. Unlike other albums which grow stale after the first few songs, Taxiride has the ability to sucessfully shift gears from light hearted songs like "Ice Cream" and "Everywhere You Go" to more serious songs such as "Can You Feel", "72 Hour Daze", and "Let Me Die Young" and still maintain your interest. For a change from the usual stale and sappy music from today's bands, try this CD which has a character of its own.

Bloody Fantastic!,

I'll keep it short. This is an album with depth, variety and feeling. The lyrics are superbly inspired and inspiring and the music complements their feel perfectly. The boys mix it up with a variety of instruments from the sitar to strings. The guys also push their vocals to limits and the listeners reap the rewards. Without a doubt, the best Australian album of 1999 and a must have!

Classic and Fresh,
By susumu-5 (Japan) - See all my reviews

Taxiride is one of the finest pop rock bands Australia has ever produced. Imaginate is the debut album in 1999 and made sweet sensation anywhere but U.S. They made a number of international hits from this album such as "Everywhere You Go" (similarly styled as ELO's Calling America), Can You Feel(many pointed out that it is like Crosby Still and Nush), Get Set and Nothing In This World. This album is already rock classic applauded by lots of music lovers around the globe. It is like encountering with Beatles bombarded by lots of crisp pop tunes. Acoustic ballads such as 72 HR daze and Elton John like Counting Down the Days show their brilliant sense of songwriting. Rocketship and Ice Cream are Inxs like pop rocker showing their modern side. They are showing that they are a lot more distinctive than any of current pop stars now hitting the charts.Recommended for wide range of pop rock fans who like the bands like BBMak, Goo Goo Dolls, Coldplay, and 70s and 80s pop rock masters.

Take a Taxiride,

I heard this band for the first time on the Bob Harris show on BBC radio. He was, of course, playing Get Set. Amazon delivered today and I'm not disappointed. Get Set is an outstanding track, and although it was always going to be unlikely that this standard would be maintained for a whole album, I enjoyed each track to some degree. I don't agree with the reviews which say that the lyrics are thought provoking etc. Shakespeare they ain't, but they're not dumb either. However, you would have to have some mightily cool and hip friends ( or maybe just be too self absorbed yourself ) to be embarrassed listening to Taxiride in front of them. CSN, and the Gin Blossoms have been mentioned as possible influences elsewhere. Agreed, but talking about "Friends", as I sort-of was a second ago, I think I can safely cite The Rembrants as another stylistic template. Listen to Rachael - the guitar hook, the hand-claps the vocal harmonies; I was transported to Central Perk. The musicianship throughout is good, and it's good to see how much they do for themselves.

A pleasant summer's worth of tunes...just in time (for me anyway)...put this in rotation and enjoy the "who's this?" from your friends...the group is in good company with influences like CSN, Badfinger, and the Raspberries...energy and drive enough to keep you listening with the top down...very good production and mix...4 1/2 Stars

Fantastic CD,
By A Customer
This review is from: Imaginate (Audio CD)
This CD is excellent. True, every song doesn't rock, but each and every song has a great sound and a distinct feel. I highly reccomend that you pick this CD up as soon as possible, seeing as how it's far superior to just about everything else out there. These guys are very talented, even if they do sound a bit too Top 40ish now and then. Why not 5 stars, you ask? Well, for starters, it's only 39 minutes long. There's also room for improvement, as there is with any band. Great job, Taxiride :)

Amazing album,

This is a nearly flawless album. I've had this CD for about 6 years, and it lives on shelves with thousands of other CDs. Yet somehow, this keeps making an appearance on my playlist. And even more unusual, when this goes in the player, not a single song gets skipped.
The song "Can You Feel" is an optimal song to jump start an album, and "Everywhere You Go" is the absolute definitive pop song. These guys have tremendous vocal ability which shines in their harmonizing. I'm stunned that people are selling this for a penny. Seriously, reach behind the couch and find a penny, and buy this CD (even if you have to pay 260 times that in shipping). You certainly won't find better music for this price, and I'd argue you won't find better music for much higher prices. Give this a chance.

A great Australian soft rock band,
By
This review is from: Imaginate (Audio CD)
This Aussie band hails from the suburbs of Melbourne and is part of the australian music landscape. 'Taxiride' fuses the sound of rock with pop cafe culture that was so popular in the Australian State capital cities in the 80's throughout the 90's. 'Imaginate' is the album's name first released in 1999 with several songs that became instantely noticed and some of these became well known hits for movies and TV Ads. The songs of 'Can You Feel', 'Get Set', 'Everywhere You Go', 'Let Me Die Young' and 'Let's Spend The Night' are the picks of this album and any fan of Australian pop or soft rock music cannot afford to miss this awesome band.

Great Album!,

Here is an absolutely suberb album. These guys from down under have put together a wonderful collection of songs. Each song is well written both lyrically and musically. Each song puts forth a particular emotion or feeling that is easy to relate to. The vocals are another thing to praise. Al vocals are dare I say, beautiful. Harmonies and melodies blend wonderfully to produce a sound that rates with the best. The Beatles come to mind. Instrumentally, all is amazing. The instrumentation in every song immediately catches one's ear and keeps it. No one song on this album is my favorite, because I believe every one to be absolutlely amazing. This album more than deserves the 5-stars I have given it. |
