Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In today's challenging business environment, executives find themselves forced to rethink the fundamental nature of their business as they literally re-create what they are about. Authors Birch and Clegg bring their past years of experience promoting creativity within British Airways, as well as in software design and review, to this latest in a long line of works on enhancing creative skills. The authors have conceptualized their process into the stages of surveying, building, way-marking, and navigating. Each stage is highly structured, with many tools or activity exercises, an explanation of the techniques of the tools, and practical examples. All along the way are frequent references to past works by Roger von Oech, Tony Buzan, and Edward de Bono. As with all works on creativity, actually applying these sound ideas requires hard work, attention, and professional facilitation from the training or human resource fields. The Internet suggestions are helpful for "connected" readers. This is a useful addition for all libraries, especially if they do not already have the works by the aforementioned authors.?Dale F. Farris, Groves, Tex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Provides great structure for creativity and problem solving., July 14, 1997

The authors provide a wonderful context in which to understand both creating and problem solving in business. The book provides an excellent review of some of the best cutting edge creativity technologies, as well as many useful new tools that I have used sucessfully in my own creativity practice. I highly recommend the book to newcomers to the growing field of business innovation and creativity, as well as seasoned veterans. I'm imagining the authors' British roots are partially responsible for their fresh slant that adds to the body of knowledge provided by American authors. A great read, lots of fun, and packed with helpful tips and resources

This book is interesting and well-written. It answers one of the most difficult questions facing managers today - How does one manage creativity? I first saw this book at the British Council Library in Bangalore, India, and have been trying to buy it ever since. Thank you, Amazon Books, for helping me locate it.
