About the Author

John Norman, born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1931, is the creator of the Gorean Saga, the longest-running series of adventure novels in science fiction history. Starting in December 1966 with Tarnsman of Gor, the series was put on hold after its twenty-fifth installment, Magicians of Gor, in 1988, when DAW refused to publish its successor, Witness of Gor. After several unsuccessful attempts to find a trade publishing outlet, the series was brought back into print in 2001. Norman has also produced a separate science fiction series, the Telnarian Histories, plus two other fiction works (Ghost Dance and Time Slave), a nonfiction paperback (Imaginative Sex), and a collection of thirty short stories, entitled Norman InvasionsThe Totems of Abydos was published in spring 2012.

All of Norman’s work is available both in print and as ebooks. The Internet has proven to be a fertile ground for the imagination of Norman’s ever-growing fan base, and at Gor Chronicles (www.gorchronicles.com), a website specially created for his tremendous fan following, one may read everything there is to know about this unique fictional culture.

Norman is married and has three children.

I bought the original publication in 1976. It captured my imagination more than any book I have read since. It is much lighter than what Anne Rice has written and safer than Topping From Below.. It helps define how and why women would buy into the whole Gorian idea. There are many suggestions of ways to live and play in a sane and fun way.. Excellent section on garments, bondage, and how to create a whole set of worlds for just the two partners that make life more interesting and the bedroom a playground that can stay forever new and exciting. If your partner isn't sure this is the way they want to go, try sharing it with them. You both maybe surprised at the fun that you hadn't thought of before. No one will like all the scenes suggested, but pick and choose what is right for both of you.

John Norman's Gor series is what he's best known for, but this book is a must for anyone into 'bedroom games.' It can be a little pendantic - JN is not the best of writers tho he's certainly not the worst by any means, he's understandable and you know what he means, you might just have a bit of a hard time swallowing it. Anyone who's read his Gor books should get a copy of this one, it lightens up the mood and makes it clear that Gor is his fantasy, if you don't like it, he's written 50 some odd fantasies in this book to play with, some incredibly funny, some vaugely offensive, and some just confusing, but his ideas and commentary, whether you agree or not, are fun to read and talk about. He can be pretty fun when he gets on a roll. Heavy bondage and some sadism and humiliation - not for fuzzy bunny people.

I detracted one star for it being written mainly for and towards men. Other than that, I really dig this book. I love the ideas. I guess I really did need someone to spell out fantasies to roleplay one by one for me. Also, I like his writing style and point of view. Being a woman, I'd rather be littler, softer and easier to catch.

So..if that's not your thing...beware.

In reading the 7 reviews above, I find it amusing that some have trouble separating their fantasy life from their real life. This book is about enhancing one's sexual experiences with a rich imaginative fantasy life. Some, mired in and comfortable with routine and sameness, will find John Norman's mostly male dominated fantasies uncomfortable even offensive. But whether you wish to admit it about yourself or not, all of us, regardless of gender have both dominant and submissive facets of the whole personage that is YOU. John Norman, despite the male dominated Gor series, credibly delves into both of those facets of himself, in that series and in this book.

Enjoyment of this type exploration of one's self requires: the ability of introspection, courage to experiment, inate curousity, and a well developed imagination. I enjoy reading John Norman as an escape from the types of "slavery modern society inflicts" on all of us. (a little of Norman's premise).

If more explanation than that is necessary, you will never understand. Don't buy the book.
If curious, buy it. Enough said.

The first time I came across this book I was 16 and digging around in my parents closet looking for something I have forgotten now. Of course, I couldn't resist looking at it. After they divorced my father got rid of the book and I have searched for the last twenty years to find it. I am happy to finally have my own copy. To say it greatly influenced my taste in sex is an understatement. If your looking to spice up your love life, I highly recommend this book. What I learned from it the first time around has kept my marrage going for 20 years. Having a copy handy, I hope will keep it going for another 20 years. We don't ever get bored around here. LOL

I owned a copy back in the late 70's but lost it. For many years I searched to find another copy. In fact, I met my late husband who owned a book store by asking for him to see if he could find it. In the 90's I called the publisher only to be told by a very snooty woman, their company didn't produce pornography like that. When I tried to explain it was written for a married couple to spice up their relationship, she slammed the phone down. I did see l copy the seller was asking $111.00 so I decided it wasn't that important to have.

It is enjoyable reading and by role playing scenarios, you can be princess, pirate or sultan who has a captured female/male do whatever your heart desires. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Not everyone "gets" the authors style in his Gor series. But many love it either way. I actually enjoy the authors style in Gor and I appreciate the subtle psychology and history lessons. But this book is not Gor. Here you will find a lot of insight and some very good advice, especially shared as "scenes". The author expresses the ideas well and the writing is very good.
