2.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad idea, but the results are nothing noteworthy, April 3, 2010

This review is from: Just Imagine Stan Lee the DC Universe (1-1ST graphic novel) (Comic)
It was an interesting idea, DC hired Stan Lee (creator or co-creator of most of Marvel comics heroes including Spider Man and the Fantastic Four) to re-imagine their greatest heroes. Then they hired some of the best artists in the business to draw the stories.

So we have re-imagined versions of Superman (with John Buscema), Batman (with Joe Kubert), Wonder Woman (with Jim Lee) and Green Lantern (with David Gibbons). Superman becomes an alien cop tracking a criminal, Batman an ex-con turned wrestler, Wonder Woman an Incan goddess and Green Lantern a professor with the power of nature. Each story is very compressed introducing the new version of the hero, a villain and a resolution in rapid order. There's also a reoccurring villain, Reverent Darrk, operating behind the scenes.

Some results are interesting but none are really groundbreaking and Stan Lee's scripts sound stiff and out-of-date. There were other volumes in this project but I can't say I'm tempted to track them down. If you see a cheap copy of this and would like to see some alternate versions of the DC heroes it's an OK read but I wouldn't spend too much money or time finding it.
