Imaginetics Mr & Mrs Potato Head

I thought I already owned every Potato Head product out there until I received this Imaginetics toy as a gift recently. No, I don't play with Potato Head toys but am a casual collector of everything potato or Mr. Potato Head.

This toy reminds me of the vinyl cling sets of yore. I like these magnetic pieces better because they are sturdier and easier for small fingers to handle. With this toy a board folds open showing Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head on separate panels. Children can then let their imaginations go wild to make funny Potato Heads and even mix gender specific pieces.

Young children, including the youngsters at our learning center, love manipulatives and can easily get involved with a toy like this. Two children playing together can really have fun trying to outdo each other with silliness.

The pieces must first be punched out of a form that holds them all, much like pieces of a model. The magnetic pieces then store easily on the magnetic board, front or back. As far as play value goes, I'd say this toy exceeds the original Mr. Potato Head because of the number of possible configurations with the 21 pieces on the two potato head backgrounds.

This Potato Head fan recommends the Imaginetics Potato Heads play set for ages 3 and up. I'm high up in the up category.

I got this for my daughter to use in the car - always a fight because she gets bored - and it is a hit! Both girls (4 and 6) have had a lot of fun with it both in the car and at church (clean, quiet, easy to carry in). The magnets are bendable so you have to be a little careful, and I would suggest a carry bag or something, the magnets aren't strong enough to stay put if you hold it upside down, so if they are carrying it somewhere the pieces can fall out. I don't know for how long this will be a fun toy - maybe it will lose its newness - but since I plan on keeping it in the car I figure it will always be a little different than what they have in the house and keep their attention.

I came across the product while looking for something comparable to Colorforms, which never seem to stick. I received this product and was impressed by the size of the playboard and magnetic pieces. This is a perfect gift for my 3 year old son. The pieces are large, easy to handle and stick well to the playboard. Great Product!

My twins played with this toy in speech therapy. So, I ordered it online at Amazon. They have lots of fun with it.

This is a fun and inexpensive toy that can amuse someone in the preschool set for about half an hour. Our four-year-old niece enjoys her plastic Mr. Potato Head but seems to have more interest in this board Potato Head because with more pieces it has more possibilities for combinations.
Storing the pieces and not losing them can be a challenge.
