5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy but understand complaints!
I've read all the pros and cons of the Imaginex line. As a mother of 4 boys (ages 12, 12, 10 and 4) I totally understand all these reviews. The quality of this system is top notch. Everything is sturdy and well-constructed, however people are complaining that it falls apart. In the past, I purchased a ton of the Rescue Heroes line...the castle, the ship...all big...

2.0 out of 5 stars disaster
We were initially very excited about this toy; however, the castle collapses very very easily! It took FOREVER to put together (my husband did it) just to have it fall apart. My child never plays with it anymore. It is too much trouble putting it together & having it stay together. I was thinking of throwing it in the trash but I keep thinking about how much we paid for...

I've read all the pros and cons of the Imaginex line. As a mother of 4 boys (ages 12, 12, 10 and 4) I totally understand all these reviews. The quality of this system is top notch. Everything is sturdy and well-constructed, however people are complaining that it falls apart. In the past, I purchased a ton of the Rescue Heroes line...the castle, the ship...all big playset pieces that, once you assembled, could not be taken apart. They were designed to be set up one way. Imaginex is different. After fiddling with this set for a couple of days (and complaining that it fell apart), I realized that it is designed so that the child can "imagine" and change/reconfigure the set a different way each time. You can't lift it up and carry it around like the Rescue Heroes sets and the like, but it wasn't designed for that. It was designed for the child to use his imagination and create different scenarios each time...because of this, it does come apart easier than the others. If you want quality, durability, versatility (and a toy that can be taken down and packed in a small corner), you will love Imaginex. If you want a toy that stays constructed in one formation and that can be moved around the house, this toy is not for you.

My 5 y/o son bought this with his own birthday money as he has a lot of the other Imaginext toys. The Eagle and 'owner' came with his as it had another box of goodies attached when he made his purchase. He loves all the imaginext toys. very sturdy and has trap doors, lights and sounds. great toy.

I gave this set to my son for Christmas along with the Imaginext pirate ship, so he could use the two sets together. I built the pirate ship first and was very, very happy with it, so I already knew when I opened this box that it was going to be cool, and it certainly is. The set snaps together very sturdily and the plastic seems like it will last forever and be nearly impossible to break. The instructions are easy to follow, and I found the set even a little fun to put together -- like building a puzzle. I even found the design of the set to be pretty clever, with several identical pieces serving different functions in the set. That does two things: it keeps manufacturing costs down, and Fisher Price has graciously passed the savings along, as this set is a great bargain compared to similar playsets by other companies. Also, the modularity means that your child can put the set together many different ways if he or she so chooses, thus expanding the toy's potential lifespan and also increasing its educational aspects.

The set looks exciting just sitting there, with many different textures (rock, steel, "bone" and fire) and lots of fire-theme dressings, from the fiery fanged windows to the torches and spinning lava pit. It has many "cool" features, like a trap door that dops an unsuspecting victim if the secret panel is hit (coolest is to hit it with a projectile, from the included dragon or, in my case, the pirate ship cannon), another target panel which tips a bucket of "lava" (plastic discs) onto the entryway, a lava pit you can make spin, an area where you can attach the plastic figures and turn a wheel to make it look like they are "fighting," a switch which operates the mouth in the dragon's head above the door -- and causes sound effects and flashing lights -- and lots of operating doors and gates.

I don't know what the manufacturer's info above is talking about -- this set does not come with an eagle, and the dragon's head does not "react" to anything but the switch in the back. They must have designed those features out at the last minute and forgotten to change their ad copy.

In any case, it doesn't keep the set from being well worth the money. It is BIG (see the customer photo supplied for size relative to a 5-year-old), has all those nifty features, it's clever and sturdy and colorful and just all around a big hit in my house -- and it's value priced! My son always wants me to join him when he plays with his toys, and this is one set that I actually enjoy playing with -- I can see that I'm going to be buying more of the Imaginext playsets in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real "Dragon Castle", November 28, 2004

My son AJ saw this in a Toys R Us ad while we were at the store buying Pull Ups. He carried the ad around for weeks, until he got it for his 3rd birthday. The age guide says four, but he wanted it so badly, we gave in. He loves it, and it is a toy he will use for many, many years to come. It is well made, comes with more accessories then I expected, and was realtively easy to put together. It really is a toy that will grow with AJ. He can play with it as we built it now, and as gets older, he can put it together many different ways. He really is in Dragon Castle heaven!

I disagree with the negative reviews. Sure, if you really whack into it, you will break it apart. But, if you put it together securely, it is pretty steady. My 5 1/2 year old twin boys who are very active have Dragamonts Fortress and the Pirate ship. They love these and play with them again and again. Pieces occasionally come off, but only small sections that they can snap together again themselves. Usually, they play with it for a long time with no problems. They like to have me initially put it together for them, then they play on their own and add more decorations, secret forts, etc. as they wish. It is a great toy that encourages imaginative play.

I cannot believe the number of moms who are saying that this toy falls apart! I bought this for my son last christmas, and believe me, my son is a typical, energetic 4 year old who plays very roughly with his toys! This is a durable toy -- not to mention very COOL with all the detailing! It really stimulates my son's imagination -- Imaginext toys are about the only ones that he will go back to again and again. IN fact, I am back online to buy one as a present for my son's friend this christmas. We've collected just about everything Imaginext, and I just have to say that this line of FIsher Price is amazing in the detailing and durability. The Imaginext line is equivalent to collectors items that you would find in hobby shops because they are that detailed. Just had to say my piece -- in fact, this is the very first review I have ever written on Amazon. I felt compelled to express how great this toy is!

I bought this for my nephew for christmas and decided to put it together ahead of time. Thinking it would be one less thing to put together. The only problem was that my 4 and 7 year old girls love it. They want me to buy my nephew something else. My girls play Barbies and house, girl stuff. But, they love this because it is for the kid with an imagination, hence the name. I also have boys and they love it also. So far, the kids have all played well together. This is a great toy.

I found this castle to be next to impossible to put together and actually have it stay together. It was a great disappointment to my 9-year old son. It now sits in a heap.

My child never plays with it anymore. It is too much trouble putting it together & having it stay together. I was thinking of throwing it in the trash but I keep thinking about how much we paid for it - plus the accessories! It is a lot of fun while it is together. It just gets frustrating having to worry about it. I guess it would be a good idea to glue it. I may try that.

As a stay at home mom of three boys, I spend considerable money on keeping my children entertained. I know a good bit about toys and this one makes me want to spit nails. Save your money for something else. I am incessantly putting it together (and yes, I am doing it properly). It just always (not exaggerating) falls apart. It is the biggest pain. As far as I know, my sons play hard but not harder than other boys. I never write opinions, chat online or whatever but I hate this toy so much that I had to let prospective buyers know. I noticed this toy at a friend's house and when I said we have the toy as well, she immediately replied that hers constantly comes apart. Go figure!! Much to my kids' dismay, I super glued the toy where it could only be configured in one design (it can be 3 different ways)and even then it ultimately came apart. When put together, they love it. Fisher Price please revamp!!!
