At the beginning, I really thought this is a very nice product. It does solve the CD organize and automatic storage problem for many people. However, this equipment is poorly engineered. I bought four units and all of them failed within a year for various reasons. There is no easy way to even take the discs out of the faulty units. If you ever think about move this equipment to another room, it is almost bound to fail. Customer service usually take 2 days to respond. The phone service guys do not answer questions about disc stakka because they know this is a bad product and rather not to deal with it with the disappointed customer. Imagining someone charges your $400 to organize 300+ CDs for a year and then quit. I am completely pissed off.

Within 5 minutes of using this thing it already lost track of 1 disc which was ejected, but it's still resident in it's "DB". I'd also tend to side with the other reviewers that it's inability to read a CD/ DVD particuarlly at the $120 price point is more than a little disappointing. My recommendation for the time being would be to take a pass on this unit. Based on the what I've seen on the net, the BesTradeUSA DC300 CD Library which stores 150 discs seems like a better deal, I've also seen one by Century for about $50, so my wow factor on this one is now pretty low. Personally, knowing what I know now, I'd stay away from this particular piece of junk.

I now own 3 of these, and they all act the same. 95% of the time they work as advertised and have absolutely no problems at all. That other 5% is when they just don't eject a disk and you need to try it a second time to get what you want out. I've even had it lose a disk, which takes a 20 minute maintenance cycle to figure out. I have also had very minor software issues (missing disk entry) which were easily figured out. But over all, these have performed quite well.

STOP! After several months the CD's do NOT eject reliably, then your CD's are trapped inside!,

We bought two of these for the office. They worked great for a few weeks, but then they stopped ejecting the CD's reliably. You'd have to 'eject' about five or six times before the CD would finally come out. It got progressively worse until it stopped ejecting at all. Imagine this true story:
"Hey, can I get the Adobe training CD" "No, sorry they're trapped in this broken library" I called support. They gave me brand new units! The new units worked great for about a month, and then began having the exact same problem!! Frustrated, I called support again. It turns out that the problem stems from the belts that run the mechanism. They stretch out over a very short period of time and begin to slip. Once they begin to slip, they no longer can exert enough force to push the disc through he 'gate'. Because I happen to be a bit of a 'shade-tree' technician, I convinced Imation to send me a handful of replacement belts so I could fix the units as needed. It takes the better part of an hour per unit. After replacing ALL of the belts in BOTH of my units, it worked again but only for about another month! Then another 2 hours of fixing for another month of function. I have given up!! Today I finally finished moving all of my CD's to a Caftek ddo-50 (the same as the Dacal CD-300). I've been using that unit at home for several years and it's been great! Perfectly reliable! Tonight after work we are all going to have a ceremonial burning of our two Stakka units in the parking lot of our office building. You're welcome to come and help.

Unhappy with this unit,
This review is from: Imation Disc Stakka - CD/DVD Management Tool (Personal Computers)
I purchased this item online and it arrived in a few days. I was planning to purchase 6 for my DVD library but after having problems with this one I
changed my mind. The unit jammed everytime I attempted to eject a disc. I contacted tech support at Imation and after three calls the tech support folks told me to send it back to the dealer. I purchased it from Antonline and they wouldnt take it back. They said Imation would have to supply a replacement since it was under warranty. After another call to imation tech support I was given a replacement. I had to box up the defective unit, pay for shipping and wait for it to arrive a week later. If you are looking to use this unit for anything other than a paperweight, You should not waste your money.

I have ordered 3 of these, 2 arrived defective. The one that works is great! they apparently have a design flaw which prevents discs from being ejected. Returning/exchanging is a time consuming process. I'd look at alternative vendors.

The future is here.,
This review is from: Imation Disc Stakka - CD/DVD Management Tool (Personal Computers)
The marketing blurb talks about "the future of CD storage and content management", which I thought was marketing speak for "this will store your discs". However, it's not until you actually use it that you discover how useful this product really is. I store a lot of stuff to CD, and yesterday was trying to find a particular document that I knew was on one of my 50 poorly labelled CDs. Normally this would take me quite some time, to go through them all if I'm not sure which CD it is on. I typed in the name into the search wizard, and the disc was in my hand within 10 seconds. How easy was that. I think it may be time to buy another one.

I am the technology coordinator for one of the largest high school in the United States. I have hundreds of reimage, driver, program, and content CD's to keep up with. I have two Stakkas and I am getting ready to order another.
The devce keeps all of my media clean, scratch free, and out of the hands and away from the eyes of "curious" people. No one can get to the disks without access to my desktop computer. This means I am in control. I do not have a bad thing to say about the device or the software. It even keeps track of who has borrowed something.

Worthless,

The first unit I bought never worked---kept cycling repeatedly through the CD turntable. The replacement unit initially didn't work. After a couple of emails, Imation Tech Support said that the motor that turns the carousel had most likely been dislodged in shipping (a common occurence, according to Imation). I did as instructed, found the diagnosis to be accurate, fixed the unit, and gleefully began loading my disks into it. It worked for about a month before it began constantly cycling through the carousel slots again. I wrote back to Imation 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing from them. Disk Stakka has no value

Stay away from these devices! I bought 6 of them and 3 of them are already having problems, 1 unit alone has logged over 92 errors and I can't get imation to DO ANYTHING about it. They come with a 1 year warranty, you MUST email them for support. I have emailed 20 times with no response. If you call the IMATION HQ in Missouri, they will NOT accept support calls for this product, you MUST go though the email / website, so in my option I wasted over $600 on this product, it ain't worth $10...
