One of the best and most valuable guides. . .,
By David Zampino "21st Century Hobbit" (Delavan, Wisconsin) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Imitation of Christ (Paraclete Living Library) (Paperback)
. . .for living the Christian life.Thomas a Kempis lived his entire life in service and devotion to God. His timeless classic, The Imitation of Christ, is one of the most widely published and translated books of all time; and is held in high esteem by Protestants and Catholics alike. As a clergyman myself, I especially appreciated Thomas's meditations on the Eucharist. (In fact, I spent time meditating on this book immediately prior to my own ordination). This new edition, part of Paraclete Press's "Living Library" of Christian classics has been thoroughly re-edited by the late Hal Helms (himself a Baptist). The Christian who spends time meditating upon and inwardly digesting this book cannot help but to grow in the grace of Christ.

A spiritual classic. . .,
By Peter Abelard (11th century Paris, France) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Imitation of Christ (Paraclete Living Library) (Paperback)
. . .for all time.Whether you are Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant, Thomas a Kempis' timeless classic is for you! This book can only deepen the spiritual life of the Christian, especially the Christian who wishes to draw closer to God through Jesus Christ. The author, not only by his writing, but as evidenced by his life, really tried to "practice what he preached" and implement in his own spiritual development the very useful and practical advice he offers to others. This book is not to be missed. (It is intriguing, is it not, that this wonderful Catholic classic is so well edited by a Baptist minister? The very existence of this particular edition is testimony to the universal appeal of this volume.)

supposedly ranks second only to the bible in terms of number published. easy to pick up and read anytime, even if for only a few minutes. it's from hundreds of years ago, so it's pretty conservative, traditional reading in contrast to some of today's swinging, feel good concepts.
