About the Author

Yuri Tsivian is a film scholar and professor in the Art History Department at the University of Chicago with simultaneous appointments in Comparative Literature and Slavic Languages. He also teaches and writes on multimedia and interactive narrative. Previously he headed the restoration team for the Central Film Museum, Moscow where he uncovered many of the early Russian films in its archives. He is also author of "Silent Witnesses: Russian Films, 1908-1919" and "Early Cinema in Russia and Its Cultural Reception".
